“Cute little bar with a big heart! H2P played there recently and the crowd was great. The bartenders are fast with drinks and a smile. Just wonderful people there, especially Nikki. We're playing there in July 27th 8 to 11pm. Looking forward to that night!”

“Went last night (a Wednesday) and was quiet, but our server Donna was fantastic. The food was amazing. Polish platter with pierogies, golabki, and polish sausage along with mashed potatoes hit all the marks and was delicious. Nice range of food on the menu with very affordable prices.
Warm, inviting environment with accordions all over the walls and old pictures gives it a Supper Club feel with a Polish twist.
We will visit again.”

“I'm biased in regards to Serve and Swig since my band plays there, but so be it. The bar has been transformed from old Nutties which was a little neighborhood watering hole to a excitingly new establishment. Serve and Swig not only offers top shelf bar service, but quite good appetizers and full meals while wude screen tv's display sporting events and maybe a couple of guitar players singing popular rock songs.
The outdoors offer volleyball leagues and pickleball courts. There is always something fun happening at Serve and Swig!”
“This will be my fourth year going to this event. I love this event. All my family go. It now became our tradition. We can celebrate our hertiage. We are German descendant. I love how they are so authentic with the german food, drinks, and the music. It's so much fun!”

“I came to try the meat loaf stack and my wife the steak sandwich. We thought the food was delicious, and the service was great. We arrived a little before 5 on Friday which was a good time because the restaurant filled up quickly after wards. We’ll definitely be coming back.”

“Me and my family LOVE this Sammie's specifically. It has a homie atmosphere inside, the workers feel like they're in sync and are very nice to the customers. The food they make is addicting, especially their chocolate shakes. When my family and I move, we'll most likely get Sammie's on the last day we live in this area.”

“Hidden in plain sight in Lake Villa, this Italian restaurant is the kind of unassuming neighborhood gem critics quietly root for. It isn’t flashy, it isn’t loud, and it doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is: a place that consistently serves excellent food at fair prices. In the Lakes region—where Italian options can feel uneven—this spot rises confidently to the top. On my most recent visit, I was seated immediately at a corner table, a small but meaningful luxury in an age of hour-long waits. The dining room, typically hushed enough for actual conversation, again delivered one of its underrated pleasures: a peaceful meal without the intrusive din that plagues so many suburban restaurants. Service followed suit—friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to help, never hovering or rushing. The kitchen remains the star. My spaghetti with vodka sauce was outstanding—rich, balanced, and among the best renditions I’ve had anywhere in the region. Other entrées at the table echoed the same strengths: sauces with clarity and depth, pastas cooked with confident restraint, portions generous without tipping into excess. Cocktails, too, arrived promptly and properly mixed, further reinforcing the sense of a kitchen-and-bar team that takes pride in their craft. If there is a shortfall, it lies in the ambiance. The room carries a certain charm, but the décor feels a step behind the quality of the food. A refresh of tables, finishes, and overall presentation would elevate the experience from very good to genuinely special. The warmth is there—the aesthetics simply haven’t caught up yet. Even so, the value proposition is undeniable. For reliably excellent Italian cuisine, low noise, easy seating, earnest service, and honest pricing, this restaurant more than earns its “highly recommended” status. It is, in every meaningful way, Lake Villa’s little culinary treasure.”
