“Back when Dixie Kitchen was in Hyde Park and closer to 170th & Torrence Avenue, my family introduced me to this Cajun/Soul Food restaurant. Now the 179th & Torrence location survives. The host/hostess explains the 'rules of engagement' which includes: 18% gratuity on all checks; no split checks; additional charge for debit cards (only chip cards are accepted). Once you agree, you're seated and promptly served. I loved the catfish filet (delightfully seasoned)and mashed sweet potatoes. The collard greens tasted a little gritty (in my opinion.) The sweet potato pie slice was "okay" cold, no whipped cream, without the spices I remember.“
“This was my first time at the restaurant and my experience was excellent. We were there for my daughter's 21st birthday and we originally had 2 tables but they were able to combine them at the last minute. And despite such a large party, the service was exceptional. Special shout-out to the manager and Joe, our waiter, plus all of the staff for being so accommodating and hospitable. Will definitely be back.“
“Food is phenomenal and the customer service is great. The owner is a very influential guy from our neighborhood. Family oriented and business savvy. I recommend the jerk tips that is my absolute fave. The soul food is definitely great as well . Keep up the great work and thanks for all you do for our community .“
“Cracker Barrel is a delightful blend of comfort food and Southern hospitality, making it a must-visit for anyone craving a taste of home. During my recent visit, I indulged in their renowned pancakes, which were a fluffy sensation of sweetness that left me craving more. The hash brown casserole was another standout, with its perfect blend of crispy and creamy textures, making it a comforting side dish that complemented every bite. However, my only disappointment came with the chicken fried chicken, where the overpour of country gravy masked the flavors of the perfectly fried chicken. Despite this, the chicken itself was tender and flavorful, a testament to Cracker Barrel's dedication to quality.Let's not forget about the biscuits, which were a warm, buttery delight that paired perfectly with the meal. The ambiance of Cracker Barrel added to the overall experience, with its charming country store offering a variety of nostalgic items. In conclusion, Cracker Barrel offers a delightful taste of Southern comfort with its pancakes, hash brown casserole, and biscuits, making it a must-visit for anyone looking for a hearty meal served with a side of hospitality. My only advice would be to go easy on the gravy if you want to fully enjoy the flavors of the chicken fried chicken.“
“I ordered the shrimp and grits off of their great Groupon deals that they’ve been offering it was a little bland, and as you can see it was a lot of grease in it. I kept trying to eat it and eat it and just ignore it but I was just way too greasy. You can see the grease on top of the grits. Don’t think I’ll finish this dish. I’ll be in clogged up my arteries.“
“Food was excellent. I had fried green tomatoes, the seafood cakes, mac, greens red beans n rice and the johnny cakes, soo cute and good with that soft butter. However the pictures and decor was a lil creepy. The antique gas tank was pretty cool when u 1st come in. But them pictures tho. Food was on point.“
