“If you get overstimulated, do NOT come here. Train sounds, kids cackling, and loud voice abound! That being said, we have been twice with my toddler for lunch and have had fun each time. “We went with our Burger Club to Lucky Burgers (a.k.a. Jelly Cafe after dark or 4pm, whichever comes first).

Jelly Cafe is a breakfast and lunch place open 7am until 2pm. Then they switch over to Lucky Burgers which is open from 4pm until no one is there and they want to go home. Though technically I think they’re open until 8 or 9pm.

There are a handful of items on the Lucky Burgers’ menu: about 5 variations of their classic burger, a chicken sandwich, chicken tenders, and waffle fries.

When we went, the place was empty and never got busy. Which opened the door for one of the owners, Scott, to regale us with tales of days gone by from his childhood in Evanston and the famous people he knew, grew up with, and worked with. It was nice hearing these stories and it was nice to give Scott something and somebodies to talk to as well.

The place has a large parking lot and is nice and clean on the inside. There is a tiny area with slot machines and a small bar/counter at the entrance.

The burgers are all smashburgers. They come as singles or double patties. Go for the double as there’s not a whole lot of meat once they’re smashed. The differences are the toppings. Scott recommends their housemade dijonaise sauce which is good, but ask for it on the side. The cook slathers it on the burger and that’s all you can taste. Once I scooped (you read that correctly) the sauce off my burger, it was a pretty good burger. The meat is seasoned well and cooked nicely and the bun holds up (despite dripping in dijonaise).

We all shared the chicken tenders as an appetizer. Five nice sized tenders come in the meal and you can choose your dipping sauce. Scott recommended their honey mustard which was very good and the ranch wasn’t bad either.

He is also johnny-on-the-spot to refill fill your drinks. I seriously thought that I would float away.

The best part is the price. All said and done for a burger, waffle fries, and a soda, with tax and tip is like $15-$18 bucks.

It’s a nice place that I need to go back to and visit for the Jelly Cafe side. AND return for their burgers, tenders, and more of Scott’s stories.“

“The food was great and the service was quick as well! Great atmosphere and good people. Our fav was the Knockout Burger but a close second was the Hot Chick. The wings were crispy and juicy albeit a little on the sweeter side for a mango habanero. Over all loved the food and will be coming back for more!

“Dined in on Labor Day and everything was ok. Two days later I placed an online order, the crew on site weren't even aware that my order was placed until 4 minutes AFTER I ARRIVED. I ordered 2 sandwiches (1 chicken and one burger), 2 fries and 2 drinks and a side of coleslaw. Got home and I had 1 chicken sandwich, one fry, one coleslaw and 2 drinks... where's the burger and other fry? I called them up, the employee who answered took 7 minutes of blabbering before offering a refund for the missing items. 1 week later and I have yet to receive my refund. Good to know that Slaw Burger engages in theft.“

“Outstanding. Saw a post on Insta and happened to be cruising through Palatine so I decided to form my own opinion. I’m certainly glad I stopped. Everything was on point. Burger was so good. I’m not normally down with waffle fries but these were great. Nice and crispy and the seasoning wasn’t over powering. I also did the Oreo shake because why not! I will definitely be coming back cuz I’m curious how the chicken sandwich is. Seriously a great smash burger and worth the money imo. Staff was great, friendly and upbeat. “It's burger King, you know what you're getting here. The new chicken sandwich is actually very good. I was lamenting the cancellation of the Chi'King, but the new Royal chicken is a good replacement.This location is usually pretty good, but just like all fast food places, they sometimes botch your order. Not a big deal, but it happens.“

“I grew up on Super dawg and had to visit on my Chicagoland visit. I was staying closer to the Wheeling location in the Northwest suburbs. They have a true Chicago dog, with neon green relish, sport peppers and poopy seed bun. It was a treat to also find a pickled green tomato.

On the downside, hot dogs seemed smaller and definitely less crinkle fries, in. A smaller box. Perhaps next time I will order just the hot dog and a side of fries as a better value and more fries. They have more food options available for those that aren't into hot dogs. A nostalgic place to visit.
