“Very deep selection of beers and beverages, anchored in a Belgian theme. There are lot of on tap unique beers. The food menu is not as lengthy; it’s very well curated and it’s hard to go wrong. The kitchen is open to see, and you can observe how well it’s run. Their signature mussels served with a huge portion of fries is a must have. Very good overall. I do wish that the fries were a bit more carefully prepared to fit with the rest of the menu (they seem to come out undercooked and less-crispy often).“

“I came to Gretel in Chicago with a few friends and had such a great experience! The atmosphere was lively but still cozy — the kind of spot that feels perfect for catching up over good food and drinks. I ordered the Monarch cocktail and the signature Gretel Griddle Burger, and both were amazing. The Monarch was perfectly balanced — refreshing, smooth, and beautifully made. The burger absolutely lived up to the hype: juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly even though the place was busy. Between the great service, relaxed vibe, and delicious food, Gretel definitely impressed me!“

“I hosted my son’s first birthday party on a Saturday afternoon here and can’t recommend them enough. Jason and Marcos were communicative and accommodating with all the planning. Ellie and Josh were great day-of service staff. Food was delicious, space was perfect. Best place in the neighborhood to host a party!“

“This is a fine neighborhood staple. I frequent Mondays when not traveling for work. Orla is generally bartender and an absolute wonderful person. Owen one of the owners I had met in the past is also great as well as the entire staff. The food is better than what you would get in a bar as they pride themselves on a grand quality with great price points. Typically not seen in many Chicago establishments.
The dog friendly patio is massive. Introducing both high top and regular tables. They have a large indoor dining area separate from the bar area. It's great for family dinners, parties and more. Get in there and get some food, a properly poured Guinness goes a long way here, I don't even think Guinness pours em like Gideon Welles does!!!“

“Lindsay is the best. We were tired after traveling all day. The food and drink were perfect to reenergize us. Shrimp pasta and jambalaya were excellent. Service was great. Tonight we went back and took a friend. We asked for Lindsey and she even remembered us and our drink preferences. The flatbreads and chocolate cake are great. Cannot beat this atmosphere.“

“We held an 80 person event here and the coordinator Caryn was detailed, communicative and so nice! The waitstaff and bartenders, the food runners, and managers all helped to run a smooth luncheon, the busboy was attentive and kind! Everyone loved the event and the food and we already want to book again!“

“I just hosted my wedding at Chief O’Neill’s on Saturday and it could not have been more perfect. Siobhan and her team took amazing care of us! The venue is stunning, the food is phenomenal, and every one of our guests was gushing about how impressed they were by everything! The back beer garden is so magical, you would have thought we spent tens of thousands of dollars to dress it up, but we didn’t need to. If you’re looking for a beautiful venue to host a wedding, party, shower, or intimate event, you should definitely give them a visit!“

“The bartender Rob made a lovely old fashioned for my first drink and then I switched to beer. The local selection was on point! Ordered the smoked wings, will come back for just those alone. Live music by summer of George was awesome as well. Had a great 90’s alternative sing along vibe. Strongly recommend checking this place out especially if you live in the neighborhood.“

“Good food. Large place so plenty of seating. 2 bars. Server claimed they were “changing” things so the Happy Hour was 3-5. All sign’s said 3-6. Ok….. he was a bit slow too but it was convenient cuz our hotel was across the street.“

“It is centrally located and easy to navigate. I love the recent improvements. BUT, the lack of charging stations for cell phones, etc. is frustrating. Outlets throughout gate seating do not work. Also, the drinking water is terrible! Tastes and smells of chlorine. I hope these will be upgraded soon!“

“Great spot. It's not just for summer! Very nice interior, comfortable and welcoming almost cozy decor. TVs are subtle so you don't feel like you're in a sports bar. Nice varied menu. Had the autumn salad with chicken - delish. Also very nice selection of wines though limited by the glass. Will be back again soon.“

“The sign says established in 1932, and every time I've driven by, I think I need to stop in. I finally did, and am kicking myself for wasted time. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The large bar and restaurant seating is comfortable and spacious. There is a variety of beers on tap, served in well-frosted glasses. We sat at the bar and I had one of the best burgers I've ever had, served with homemade chips. It was so good that I almost returned with another companion the next day!“
