We've rounded up Palos Heights' top Mexican spots for you to try.
“I don't even know where to begin to express how incredible of an impression this restaurant has left me. The kindness and quality of it all definitely has me wanting to come back. The steak torta was juicy and filling with the right touch of ingredients. The rice was really good along with the beans! The chicken torta was tender and juicy as well with such a fluff of bread to the touch. The Birria tacos were the juiciest and cheesiest I've had from anywhere along with their motor oil broth (just joking, I just call them all that as it was still super delicious as well)And for dessert, the cheesecake was so smooth to the taste while the churros were very crunchy and Delicious, and even came with 3 different dips to try with! That was an awesome experience.Everything was just really well done and delicious! Along with the presentation was just great! Thank you for this delicious experience! Will definitely be coming back.“
“My first visit here has been awesome! A super friendly woman greeted me, and took my order at the counter. I had chips and salsa and a chicken chimichanga and they were a 10 out of 10 on the flavor scale. The chips were fantastic as were the salsas and the pico de gallo. The chicken chimichanga was one of the best I've ever had anywhere.. I also had the Jamaica to drink, sweetened hibiscus based tea that was wonderful with my spicy food! I will definitely be back to this restaurant again and again!“
“Love this place! Have had their gorditas a couple of times and they are delicious! I love that they aren't deep fried and a larger size. Love the numerous filling options so we get a variety and share as a family. Tacos were really good too! Steak asada was great, chicken milanesa is well seasoned, chile relleno, steak & potato, and al pastor are all delicious! Solid, super authentic spot!“
“I recently had the pleasure of dining at Maria's Tamales, and I must say, it was an incredible experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the warm and inviting atmosphere, and it only got better from there. The star of the show, of course, was the tamales, which were nothing short of exceptional. The menu at Maria's Tamales offers a wide variety of options, but the pozole and menudo really stood out to me. The pozole was rich and flavorful, with tender pork and a perfectly seasoned broth that left me wanting more. The menudo was equally impressive, with its robust flavors and comforting warmth. Both dishes were clearly made with care and expertise, and they transported me to the heart of Mexico with every bite. What truly sets Maria's Tamales apart, however, is the authenticity of the food. You can tell that the tamales are made with traditional recipes and high-quality ingredients, resulting in a truly genuine and delicious dining experience. The staff was also incredibly friendly and attentive, adding to the overall enjoyment of the meal.If you're in the mood for authentic Mexican cuisine, I highly recommend Maria's Tamales. Whether you're craving tamales, pozole, menudo, or any other Mexican delicacy, you're sure to find something that delights your taste buds. I can't wait to return to Maria's Tamales for another memorable meal. Arriba Michoacán!!!!! I love Paulina.“
“Just go! This is our hidden gem for Mexican cuisine. So nice! My wife and I love everything we've ordered. We brought our daughter last week and our son yesterday. It's a family run business. Recommendations include the chili relleno burrito or plate, tacos, the San Juan Plate (the salsa de chile de árbol is amazing), tortas, and enchiladas…so so good! The owners are soo nice! Oh, and she makes the best cocktails too! Buen provecho!“
“The best birria I have ever eaten in my entire life. I've just been there for the first time and it's simply incredible. From the first place, I was involved in something difficult to explain, so many years passing and never having given them a chance or knowing the goodness of their food.“
“First time I took my wife to the solaso restaurant the food we ordered was the tacos the tripas cochinita pibil tacos in the onion with the lime all delicious and also we ordered the the drinks and a dessert that that churros what the topping a chocolate in ice cream I'm very recommend this restaurant definitely definitely a back again and waitress Lezly very good ???“
“Food was very delicious. Lots of flavor , you can tell the cook loves what he does! Servers were very attentive. Thank you for the yummy food and great service ? when me and hubby are in town we definitely will be stopping by to try out other menu items. I look forward to it.“
“it be hard to find reasonable GOOD tacos !!! & this place has it ! Reasonable deal for 2 tacos & they were good ! I had the chicken and steak ! they were on point ! Angie the cashier sold us baby!! she said they were better than the place across the street and that we’d be coming back !!! lol, and I promise I would most definitely be back ! It was clean, the music is a vibe ! And we barely had to wait ! tacos wasn’t dry or old ! Good tacos always win“
“As a vegan myself, this place has the best vegan tacos I've ever had! Service was very quick too without sacrificing quality, in addition feels "light" in a good way without all the heavy grease and salt. It's hard finding vegan restaurants with large vegan menu options, including desserts like cake and brownie dessserts that taste so good like "regular" cake/brownies, so this place has it all! Also love how close this restaurant is walking distance to my home, so I'll definitely be a repeat customer!“
“Fantastic! I tried the empanadas, quesadillas, tacos al pastor and quesabirria. Each dish was great and the plating was elegant. The ingredients are fresh and the atmosphere was very nice. I actually think it can compete with anything in the city.“
“I stopped by to try out the pozole. I was prepared to be disappointed as I have been with most restaurant pozole. The bar is pretty high as I have a friend that makes it best homemade. I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. The broth was not rushed which resulted in such rich flavors. Every spoonful was filled with meat and hominy as well thanks to the generous servings in the soup. The taste reflects the patience and love that it was made with. The price point was pretty amazing as well. I will undoubtedly come back for more.“
“Let me just start by saying that this locksmith was amazing. He showed up in about 20 minutes after I called for help and fixed the lock on my car door. They were so fast, thorough, and knowledgeable. I would recommend this locksmith to anyone who needs help with their car key coping!“
“The food is amazing and the owner is nothing short great. He’s extremely generous and cooks like no other. Highly recommend the tacos de Al pastor, as it is their specialty and they are delicious. And as far as An amazing dark horse, their Mexican burger is absolutely delicious.“
“Based on previous reviews we decided to make the drive from Logan Square to Querrepario in Archer Heights. The drive was totally worth it!The food is perfectly seasoned and portioned well. It's truly authentic food from Guerrero. The homemade tortillas are so good and were made to order. Everthing we ate was good. The food is delicious, excellent service, and to top it off the place is very clean. We'll definitely be going back.Highly recommended!!Kid-friendliness: Totally laid back atmosphere and very child friendly, my 4 year old loved the food.“
“At Jimmy's they appreciate their customers you are greeted with an appropriate good day ma'am or sir how may I help you they have music playing so the atmosphere is very nice and they have very good food give them a try I give them five stars and two thumbs “
“Can't say enough about this wonderful place. The food is some of the best even against the great Mexican food in Chicago. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the love that exists. Drinks are some of the best I've had and the creativity is second to none. My wife and I really enjoy coming here trust me, when you're here you're family. Gracias“
“This was my Second time visiting this restaurant, and I brought my guy in to try their food. Ms. Darcy waited on us, and she was warm, and inviting as we walked in. We didn’t even have to get up when our food was ready, Ms. Darcy brought it to us!! He had a catfish dinner, and he thoroughly enjoyed it! I had the chicken wing dinner and it was a hit as well!! We tried the jerk egg rolls as well once we got home and they were good…not spicy enough for my taste though. The atmosphere here was a bit “smoky” I’m sure from the grills but the smoke consumed the dining room atmosphere. Overall, we were pleased with the food and may come back to pick up take out!“
“This place is fantastic for dining out! I highly recommend it. I recently took my family here, and the food was absolutely amazing! The staff were incredibly welcoming, and the environment was top-notch. The restaurant's interior was beautifully decorated—it felt like I was transported to Mexico! There are two locations in Chicago, so be sure to visit the one on 55th street if you want to dine in; the 18th street location is for takeout only. This was my first visit, and I'm already looking forward to returning! Just a heads up, both locations offer street parking, so plan accordingly, especially on weekends.“
“I ordered two tacos de asada and a Gordita of stuffed peppers and cheese. The food was seasoned so well!! The meat was tender and the Gordita was full of flavor. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. Having this place so close to work is dangerous for me LOL definitely going back there!!“
“Friday morning. 11AM. Everyone knows good carnitas are found on Friday to Sunday. We'll this place did it right.$11.99 a pound of flavorful, tender, and hearty carnitas. I was helped by a nice elderly pair at a quick service counter, and it was quick. This is a little hidden gem for sure!I'll be going back on a random weekday to see if it's as good on a weekend.“
“Definitely try the steak pastor and barbacoa. cooks put in the work and the food comes out delicious. Servers are very helpful and will answer any questions about the menu in a friendly way. My favorite plate the lucky fajitas with the shrimp steak and chicken comes out sizzling and very flavorful! Number 1 spot in my list!“
“Never a bad visit ~ hubby and I eat there at least 2-3x a month lunch or dinner. Staff is friendly and attentive to the customers. Food is delicious ? portion size is good. Very nice neighborhood diner for us. Prices are reasonable. Easy access parking.Thank you !“
“Perfect family atmosphere to try delicious Mexican food, it may take a while but the ingredients and food are fresh, handmade tortillas, the coffee is delicious and the waitresses always have the best attitude and service. The atmosphere is pleasant, sometimes there is live music, without a doubt it is my favorite place for Mexican food, the quesadillas are exceptional, chilaquiles 100% recommendedParking: Parking on the street for which you have to pay, you cannot park in the space in front because there is a private tow truck that takes the cars, you have to look for a space on the streets.Kid-friendliness: They have a children's menu and drinksWheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessibility“
“Nice little spot. Service is superb. Tocos are small but they are flavorful. The Gordita with chicharrón prensado, simply amazing. This is a must have if you come here. Everything is also very affordable. Will most definitely be back for more of that chicharrón prensado!“
“The food was amazing here, I would highly recommend eating here. Food is authentic and the masa is homemade. The bathrooms were very clean and our server was lovely(server was blonde and hispanic). She kept coming back to our table making sure everything was well and held a meaningful, genuine conversation. The horchata is amazing as well, not too sweet nor watery. Was my first time coming here and do not regret it, please give this place a chance. You will NOT be disappointed!!“
“My first time there - just turned into the small lot on a sudden urge for a taco. It's clean but not glamorous and with very limited seating inside and out; but I will DEFINITELY be returning. I had the best ground-beef taco I've ever had. The service was courteous and the other food looked delicious! Authentic look and flavor. The sauce was super spicy so beware.“
“HOLY COW, this is a hidden treasure of a food spot in Oak Lawn! The atmosphere of the store is amazing and cozy. Great menu selection and the food is out of this world! I ordered the Chicken Burrito Suizo and a mango Fresca and everything is made fresh and truly made with love and passion!! The rice and beans were some of the best I’ve ever had too! Great job and will be back over and over again!!“
“What can I say, I don't know how to explain it ?? It was too delicious and they are very big and the sauce is very delicious I ordered half roast and half pastor and a horchata water very delicious also the kindness of the cashier machetes very nice very kind thank you ? come on and enjoy a machete here in Chicago machete A and like my photos“
“This is by far the best burrito I have ever had in my life! It is the juiciest, tastiest, and freshest ingredients that I've had in a burrito, and I'm so happy that the location came back in Summit, IL. If I could rate it ten stars I would.“
“Ordered here because I was looking for the Birria experience, which I’ve never had before coming here. I placed my order online. I was given a time to pick it up. When I arrived it was a couple minutes early than the time suggested and my food was ready. I was happy with that. I normally check my food before leaving but due to this being my first experience I waited until I got home. Everything I ordered was there. The food was amazing I had the birria pizza, along with the birria ramen, and the Chimibirria which all exceeded my expectations. I will be going back and would recommend anyone to go there. Hopefully I will receive the same experience as before on my next visit. Thank you for the wonderful experience!“
“My wife and I visited Pepper Mill on February 1, 2024. Tye restaurant was clean and taken care of. We were immediately acknowledged after entering and seated within a couple minutes. I ordered the Turkey dinner which was recommended by friends. A couple and salad accompanied the meal and it was on special that evening. The soup I selected was cream of chicken rice. Tye flavor was good but I felt it needed to be thinned out. Salad was fresh and enjoyable. The Turkey dinner was thinly sliced from fresh Turkey breast. The meat was tasty and not dry. It was layered over stuffing that was lightly seasoned. I chose mashed potato's and steamed broccoli. The potatoes tasted like they were either from a box or a mix of boxed and fresh. The broccoli was fresh and cooked nice. The Turkey gravy was layered over the potato's and the Turkey. It was flavorful and seasoned nicely. My wife chose the Meatloaf and said it was good also. We both felt the price was reasonable and we would return. Our server was excellent and added to the experience.“
“It is difficult to taste a dish with a Mexican flavor here in Chicago, it is difficult because most restaurants lose the seasoning oerooo wow I was surprised at this restaurant. From the moment you enter you can smell beautiful Mexico.now the service is incredible, super attentive and friendly, in my case I ordered some shrimp in the eye. And they served it to me very quickly, in about 5 minutes, the other dish, sautéed shrimp, took about 15 minutes. The fish ceviche was super delicious. The garlic shrimp is very very delicious, the dish is very delicious, with the French fries, the rice is very very deliciousIn conclusion, if you want to feel like you're in Mexico, come eat here, you won't regret it.The cost is good, because they serve you michooo in each dish“
“The tamales are FIRE!! Moist, airy (not dense), and fully of meat. I bought the rojos con pollo, verde con pollo, rojos con puerco, and a oaxaqueño para rematar The family devoured them!!For me, the oaxaqueño was top notch and by far my favorite kind of tamal to eat!! It was SUPER moist and almost gooey…and LOADED with sauce, meat, y muchísimo SABOR. Just the way I like them. The champurrado was also very good. This was my first time trying Isela’s Tamales and I know the wifey will send me to Isela’s for otra dozena “
“On November 17, 2023 I stopped at this Mexican restaurant and gave them a try with little to know chance right before my hair appointment and when I tell you one of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve been to in a very long time the food was freshly prepared the restaurant was clean and the customer service was A1 any time I’m in Chicago on the southwest side this would be a restaurant I would have to go to so for anyone reading this go here“
“Beyond expectations! Countless memories of a night filled with joy and celebration - thank you Valladolid Banquet Hall for making my daughters quince amazing. Very emotional seeing my daughter's dream exactly how we envision it coming true. Beautiful decor, service was great, and the food was delicious. We can't wait to be back. Please keep us up to date with any upcoming events! Thank you Valladolid Banquet Hall again.“
“So we've had Sal's a handful of times already and it's great! we usually get pizza and wings not a complaint from anyone in the family! I'm usually really picky with sauce and I like this alot. we also ordered tacos from here they're good but small is the only thing negative to say. We'll definitely be back again and again!“
“First time customer, and I must say the food was amazing! Everything was so flavorful and enjoyable, the aguas frescas were just as amazing, my family loved it! The workers were so friendly and took their time to make sure everything was in the order which I love! Will definitely be coming back here!!“
“I have been looking for a good taco place to go to and I stumbled upon this place. Let me tell you they have great tacos here. The young ladies that work here are nice and welcoming. The food is very fresh and good. Price is reasonable. I had the two taco special and it was great. If you are looking for a good taco this is the place to go to.“
“The tamales have good flavor, as does the atole.I just don't like the cheese they put in it because it looks like chewing gum and they put a lot of it in. They could be better with another kind of cheese. Also the green Oaxacans are too spicy and they put too much sauce on them.“
“Since moving from Chicago, I've definitely missed authentic Mexican Tacos!! I tried this when visiting friends, and I have to say they were so delicious! They hit the spot! From the tortilla, good portioned meats and their hot sauce! I ate four and had to order more to go!! Can't wait to come back!“
“I've tried a few items there and recommended them to friends and family members... I like there carnitas and there menudo are good....I just recently tried there chicken quesadilla I was very impressed with the taste but hands down the should change there name to mega pastor....cause it's a knock out...eat that good to sleep...it's pricey but you pay for quality....thank you...“
“I had a torta dinner my first time dining here. It was absolutely delicious! Had to try the rice and beans first and they definitely set the tone for what was in store with the torta. Excellent taste. Their Jamaica was perfectly made as well. Will definitely be returning.“
“Best service. The ladies there are always so kind, friendly, & genuine. Food portions are great at a very fair price. Food quality is some of the best in the area. One of my favorite spots to eat. So much flavor, top 3! You have to put this place on your bucket list.“
“Hidden gem! Tacos are full of incidents and full of flavor. Al pastor are side by side with the Al pastor from atotonilco. Asada tacos are delicious as well. Only thing I wish they would do is not chop up the asada into so small pieces. Other than that, visit this place and enjoy the great tacos! I wish I could give half stars because it definitely deserves 4 1/2 stars out of 5!“
“Loved it and I'll be back! So I'm new to the burbs and was ecstatic when I found out there would be this trendy fusion restaurant opening up. My husband and I stumbled upon it on a Saturday early evening - just in time for an early dinner. I'm a huge Mexican food aficionado so I know my Mexican food. It's not your typical authentic Mexican food that you'd find in the city, but a bit more contemporary and still flavorful - and I can appreciate that! We ordered the guacamole with chips and salsa which I thought were great. We also ordered the Al pastor tacos, the chicken tinga and carne asada. We ended our dinner with the Mexican donuts. Overall, I would go back and order all of it except the chicken tinga which was a little too sweet for my liking. My favorite was the Al pastor. My husband loved the carne asada. I also had a delicious watermelon mocktail not listed on the menu but something the bartender created on a whim. Best of all, the staff and our server were extremely friendly and attentive. We had such a great experience, I would definitely be back and it feels wonderful to have something fun and new in town.“
“Delicious, fresh, and fast service. I ordered a taco along with a chicken Philly and garlic fries. I added the extra olive/pepper medley to the Philly and it was amazing. The garlic fries are just seasoned and could use a touch more flavor, but they were still good. I will definitely go again.“
“The ladies that work there are very nice they take your order and get you your food in a timely fashion they're always smiling and they love to see familiar faces everything on the menu is very good and I love their chicken tamales everything is delicioso and their beans and rice are off the chain“
“The tamales are delicious! Will definitely buy again. My favorite are the queso con rajas, but I also bought chicken and pork tamales that were also good and my family enjoyed very much.I loved my one strawberry tamale I bought to go with my coffee?I didn’t try the arroz con leche or champurrado.“
“Casual atmosphere in remodeled dining room gives eat-in or take-out options. Specialty cocktails, large television screens and appetizer selection are a nice touch for sports viewing. The servers are friendly and food comes out quickly. Menu includes a variety of popular Mexican foodKid-friendliness: Very family friendly with selections for all ages“
