This diner exudes authentic, small town Midwestern charm, with great food. If you're heading to Galena from Chicago, this gem of a breakfast/lunch place is worth your time to stop here. The picture and mural on the wall show a 1897 established date. The decor and everything from the flooring to the ceiling is from that turn of the century and is in great shape. If my review was just for ambience and service it would be 5 stars. I love the stained glass and the sitting area and murals and our waitress was very nice and attentive. And my food was good too but nothing special. I had the cinnamon french toast with apple compote and just wasn't blown away. But the price was very reasonable and I did enjoy it. Went at 1:15 on a Saturday and we were the only ones there which was a little surprising since this is a solid brunch choice.

I stopped with my daughter and granddaughter for lunch, and we loved Stella's! We had a giant cinnamon roll, lettuce salad with candied pecans, feta, and chicken, and the grilled cheese with tomato basil soup. They were all absolutely delicious! Loved the quaint and historic décor and the service was excellent!
