He gave us time to settle in and talk some with friends we hadn't seen for a while and then took our orders, made sure everything was right and checked back several times to fill glasses and be sure everything went well. “We stopped into this little place one Saturday afternoon on a whim while walking downtown Geneva. Such a cute place! We did a wine tasting. The woman who did our tasting was an owner, and you could tell how passionate she was about the Michigan and the wines. She was very knowledgable and the wine was wonderful! I got a cheese spread to take home. It's sun dired tomato falvored and I love it! Will definitely be back!“

“Came here with friends. Ambiance was really lovely and warm set in a gorgeous old building. Good selection of drinks, service was professional and pleasant. The food was on the better side of average. Perhaps i ordered poorly. My Arctic Char was overcooked. Spatzle was drowning in sauce. My husbands slow-cooked ribs were good, the fennel in the lamb was slightly overpowering. The octopus starter was slightly overcooked. The shrimp bao was a winner. Desserts were delicious. The plating for everything was attractive. Would I return? Unlikely, given that we travelled for this.“

“Came here on a Sunday night for the first time. We were delighted to see the "oysters for $1.50 all day" sign upon our approach. Yes, please! Josh gave us the drink menu run down. You will want one of each, but I tried two on this visit. The pink one is Familiar Places and the other is Confucius' Final Cocktail. Yes, the cookie gets a little soggy on one side, but it is soaked in a lovely alcohol concoction. No complaints. See photos.The menu is small plates. After the oysters, we had the fried white anchovies, grilled octopus (our test for any restaurant offering it and they passed with flying colors), croquettes - spanish style, and a small charcuterie plate. All fresh, and amazing. Loved the accompanying sauces for each dish.They will have outdoor seating for summer which is perfect. The seating indoors is intimate, but inviting and we never felt rushed. A great date night spot or a stop for a true, craft cocktail.The owner, Devin, was there and is also hands-on to take a drink order or answer questions. The kitchen staff prepares the food quickly, but it's obvious that they take care and pride in their preparation and service.We will back for sure!“

“Very cool place with amazing staff and a great selection of liquor. Awesome selection of bourbon along with friendly staff. The atmosphere is top notch. Such a cool place to hang out and relax after a long week. I recommend checking them out. Street parking and a parking lot just down the street available.“

“HUGE HEADS UP: If you bring cake to the restaurant you will be charged a "cake cutting fee" of $2.50 PER PERSON. I'm not sure what happened in the past for this unreasonable fee to exist, but you need to advertise this on your website and restaurant entrance. Being told on the spot with your group and cake is not useful. As much as I love this place, I would not have come in if I knew this beforehand. My family and I brought our own paper plates and cutlery too. I understand if there was a reasonable fee for bringing out extra plates and using fridge storage, but we essentially paid $25.00 to store our ice cream cake in a freezer and have one knife brought to us. On top of an automatic 20% gratuity for 8+ people (which is advertised at the entrance, so no complaints there).Our waiter was very kind and attentive. We appreciated him and the delicious food. I am just asking for more transparency because paying $25 extra for that is ridiculous. Start posting this information so your customers can make informed choices x“

“We had such a fantastic night here as a family of 8 people and were taken incredible care of by Gino, our server. The staff was kind, engaging, and friendly and all worked hard to support each other considering how busy it was! The food was to die for, and Gino went as far as to get us an extra take-home container of a dressing we absolutely loved, because he was that great to us! My ONLY complaint would be the need for another bathroom or two, but when Gino saw me waiting, he escorted me to a back bathroom so that I didn’t arrive back at our table after our food was already served! The drinks were wonderful and the dessert was great! We WILL be back, and can’t wait to tell our friends and family how much we recommend The James. And to Gino- thank you for your great service, our family could not have been happier!Vegetarian options: Dishes are labeled clearly & salads all have the option to add proteins if desired.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options & plenty of options for meatless meals.“

“I just had my baby shower at The Wine Exchange and I had to stop by to say a huge thank you to Bob and the team! The day was perfect, the food was absolutely amazing (I will forever dream of the french toast casserole) and a seemless process from start to finish. “This is a really cool area in downtown St. Charles. Great place for wine tastings and the best exotic cheese selection around. Cheese with espresso, cheese with water buffalo milk. Really wild. Good selection of wines too. 50% shop, 50% 100% fun.“

“The food is amazing. The house salad has a unique lemon oil dressing. So simple and refreshing. The neopolitan style pizza is the best in the area. Love the modern ambiance inside. Plus they have covered outdoor seating on their patio in the summer. Highly recommend if you are in the area.“
