I honestly can't be succinct while trying to convey our positively phenomenal experience. Jami Hines, co-owner, greeted us and was kind and courteous without being pretentious; genuinely nice. Our server, Charlee, continued with the same. Her infectious smile and absolutely charming demeanor was outstanding. The food was exceptional. Everything we ordered was perfectly done and the flavors were excellent. The combinations were superb. My husband had been to Roberto's in...read full review
Great restaurant, highly recommend. The chicken spiedini was delicious and the service was great!
My new favorite Italian restaurant. Better than places on the hill. Waterloo is lucky to have this downtown. Service was as amazing as the food.

Geno's Trattoria & Chophouse in Waterloo offers a dining experience that many find appealing, especially for special occasions or date nights. The interior is very cool and inviting, creating a pleasant atmosphere. Guests often mention that the atmosphere on the first floor is incredible, making it a nice place to enjoy a meal. The restaurant's menu features a variety of pasta dishes, such as tortellini, rigatoni bolognese, and amatriciana, with the tortellini being a personal favorite for some. The pasta is cooked perfectly, and the sauces are generally well-liked, though portion sizes can be small, leaving some guests feeling disappointed about the value for money. Prices for entrees start at around $23, but many note that sides like bread or salad are not included, which can make the meal seem less justified given the quality and size.
The food quality is often praised, with standout dishes like filet Marsala crema receiving high praise. Guests are especially impressed when the food hits the mark, noting that the food and drinks can be incredible, making the experience worth the price. However, service quality varies; some find the staff to be inexperienced, leading to slow service and long wait times, especially in the bar area. For instance, water and acknowledgment can take 15 minutes or more, which detracts from the overall experience. Appetizers like calamari are often seen as frozen and fried, not particularly memorable, and some find that portion sizes on certain visits are stingy, especially for pasta dishes. Despite these issues, many guests recommend Geno's for its atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food, making it a popular spot for those willing to overlook some service shortcomings in favor of a good meal.
