Sam's Club Cafe Cafe • $$
1301 Veterans Pkwy, Clarksville

“I have maintained a Plus membership with a military discount at this Sam's Club for at least 10 years and finally feel compelled to write a review based on an over and above positive experience this week. I usually do curbside pickup for the convenience and most of the time I receive a notification that my order has been pulled and ready for pickup even earlier than my chosen time. Refreshing! On this particular visit, I encountered Jamie, one of the employees transporting items out to waiting customers queued up in their cars. I had 2 online orders and Jamie was able to consult the manager on duty and partially combine items from these orders so that I could fulfill my shopping list without over purchasing. Also, most surprising takeaway, one of my items was the final one in stock and Jamie tracked it down and saved the day for me because I needed it for the next day and was a bit panicked. Kudos to both Jamie and the manager on duty for making me one happy customer and for going way beyond expectations for outstanding customer service.“

“Panera bread always has the Freshest most well put together sandwiches baguettes, soups, salads, and fresh fresh, fresh, across-the-board. I really go for Fontaga chicken ... I'll just take off the basil an onion and add the fresh spinach. And on my yummy goodness I absolutely love the chocolate croissants now I have to watch my sugar ...so I figure with that dark chocolate and that puff pastry it's kind of a OK cheat. (Smiles) and the baguette with the butter yum-o. When you want something different, come to Panera.“

“I used to live on the east coast and ate bagels all the time. Since leaving the east coast and living all over the midwest, it's been a struggle to find good bagels- UNTIL Maya Bagel Express came along. This place knows how to make a great bagel and the service is always stellar. If you want a taste of real, delicious, perfectly made bagels, go to Maya's. You will not regret it!“

“On one hand, how have I not reviewed La Pana yet? It's such a delicious find! But on the other, yay to having the opportunity to sing my praises of La Pana! Love that I get this opportunity to write down how much I love this small walk-up window at Logan Street Market. So first of all, if you happen to be at LSM in the morning and you notice that La Pana is open and has baked goods for sale, JUMP ON IT! I've visited a few times to find them sold out. I love the lechecilla donut, which is coated in cinnamon sugar with a Oaxacan vanilla custard in it. It's a small donut, but just the size it needs to be to be a fun morning treat. Also good is the rol de canella con lechecilla, which reminds me of the lechecilla donut but made with flaky puff pastry instead. The strudel and croissant were also delicious. La Pana also has coffee, and if you find that a favorite pastry is sold out, I highly suggest you venture inside LSM and see what Safai Coffee has stocked, since they carry their pastries as well. Plus, you should take this opportunity to also visit sister restaurant Foko, which recently moved out of LSM into its own building at the corner of Kentucky and Logan streets.“

“This place is amazing. I actually forgot to take pictures because I was too distracted talking to the owner about the amazing atmosphere and Ethiopian language and his experiences as an immigrant in the US and his very fancy coffee machine that he was very proud of ("the Telsla of coffee makers", he called it! He showed me how it works, and it is - in fact - the Tesla of coffee machines). So not only was the service and atmosphere absolutely inviting, the quality of human interaction I experienced was remarkable. I spent a full hour just talking and asking questions and getting to know the people working that day. Also - they have a printer available for anyone to use (pay like $.15/page or something) - all you have to do is email them and tell them "hey im having this printed and I'm going to come get it in half an hour" - which is such a thoughtful service to offer, especially for those of us who dont have a home printer but still need to be able to print resumes and school assignments or various forms required for daily adult life. So - if you're just looking for a great cup of coffee or a tasty treat, I would highly recommend this place. My medium coffee and baklava (a generous serving) came out to $11 - very reasonably priced. If you are looking to connect with new people and experience a sense of community and perhaps indulge in a bit of cultural exchange, in addition to enjoying a delicious coffee, I can assure you that you wont be disappointed at Abol Cafe.“

“Gralehaus rivals any eatery you might encounter in New York or Chicago. I wandered in on a partly cloudy Monday afternoon in March. First was the Maca Mocha. It had a nice cocoa flavor without being bitter or overly sweet. About fifteen minutes later the Ugly Frittata arrived at my table. The crème fraîche added a sumptuousness to the fluffy eggs so that the edges didn't feel overly dry, while the veggies on top provided an occasional crunch and a tanginess that really expanded the flavor of the dish. The picture I took doesn't adequately depict the outsized egg entree. It rests inside a shallow bowl, about ten inches across, making it one of the more filling options on the menu. Thankfully, the frittata holds its heat for a long time, allowing you to slow down and savor. It's the perfect meat-free option for one very hungry person or for two lightly fed people looking to share. At ten minutes to closing time and in defiance of my satiety, I approached the cashier and requested a slice of their Best Damn Coffee Cake. And since every coffee cake deserves a good coffee, I added a nitro cold brew to my order. The cold brew came to the table almost instantly, followed a few minutes later by the cake. I started to snap a picture, unconcerned with the sensory experience at hand, when a waft of warm cinnamon hit my nose, a reminder to pause and relish the moment. The cake is creamy and spongy at the same time, thanks to a gooey layer of brown sugar and cinnamon resting directly beneath the crunchy topping. It pairs well with the delicate effervescence of the nitro cold brew. All told my dining experience lasted an hour and fifteen minutes (the staff graciously allowed me to stay past closing time to finish my repast). My advice: save your visit to gralehaus for when you have to time to slow down and savor the experience. The warm atmosphere and made-to-order dishes beg an extra few, crucial moments of your day.“
