Awet Major is a solid and vibrant Ethiopian restaurant on the west side of Indianapolis. The inside decor is creative and vibrant. The service is fast, friendly, super kind, wonderfully kind, and accommodating. The owner and cook is absolutely incredible, speaks very good English, listens carefully, gives great recommendations, and expertly accommodates allergies and questions.
Everything is made fresh to order with obvious love, culture, and flavor. The food is absolutely delicious, very well seasoned, and some of the best food Indy has to offer. Specific dishes highlighted include the delicious vegetarian platter, which has excellent variety, the Awet combo, the best Foul for breakfast, and kicha fetefet. The injeera is served cool. They also have smoothies and the telba drink, made from roasted flax seeds, which is very different. It is a wonderful little place where guests leave very happy, satisfied, with full bellies, and intending to return very soon.
