About The Tamale Place

The Tamale Place is a popular spot for tamale lovers in Indianapolis. Known for some of the best tamales around, the restaurant offers a variety of flavors that keep customers coming back. The corn tamales are especially praised, with many adding sour cream and cheese at home to make them even better. The green chicken tamale sometimes arrives without sauce and may not always meet expectations, but overall, the quality remains high. Visitors enjoy trying different options, often ordering one of everything for a mini smorgasbord. The salsa is highly recommended, and the tacos are full of flavor, especially the pork tacos, which are considered some of the best. The thick chips and fresh salsa complement the meal well. Although the picnic tables might not be the most comfortable, many people prefer to take their tamales home. The friendly staff and owner create a welcoming atmosphere. While prices are slightly on the higher side, many feel the quality justifies the cost. Arriving early helps to enjoy these tasty tamales, and customers are encouraged to explore other items like tacos and burritos. Overall, The Tamale Place offers excellent food and friendly service, making it worth the trip.

OMG that bowl I got was so güd.
Did not expect it

So good! Elote is amazing, tamales are huge and lots of meat, tacos are excellent and overstuffed! Don't forget their tortillas are made fresh and they grind the corn 🌽

Steak taco was delicious. Probably my favorite in town -- check my other reviews to see I've eaten a LOT of asada tacos around town. $6 for one taco, so more than other places around town, buuuut it was tasty as was the sauce/salsa that came with it. Plenty of meat filling that wasn't overly fatty or gristly.
Pork tamale was okay. Could've used some more flavor IMO. Plenty of meat in the tamale, too.
