Visiting my son and his girlfriend and her family after their house fire, we needed to eat and step away from everything for a bit. Being a frequent visitor to Louisiana, not many non-native Cajun restaurants will reach a 5-star review. The food was good. When it was my turn in line, they were scraping the bottom of the etouffee, and pretty much what I got was juice. Their three entrees in a bowl are exactly that. All in one single bowl. I love the drunken chicken and honey sriracha chicken. They have Mexican coke and other glass pops. Also, while I was here, they gave a free bowl of food to a man who’s experiencing homelessness. Fantastic place.

J. Gumbos was a great place to stop to eat while we were on our roadtrip, passing through Terre Haute. It is a welcome respite to the chain restaurants that litter nearby US41 and fits in nicely with the downtown's vibe. Our portions were appropriate, prices were good and the food tasty.
