Sweets by Millie Bakery • $$

“We could not have been more pleased with the way our daughter’s second birthday cake and cookies looked and tasted! From the start, the communication and customer service was top notch. The communication was speedy, friendly, and detailed from start to finish. I gave the cake artist a theme (Bluey) and a lot of creative freedom. She did not disappoint! The appearance of the cake and cookies was stunning and received so many compliments. My daughter loved it. We chose almond cake with raspberry filling. The cake was decadent with just the perfect amount of almond and the raspberry filling was fresh and delicious. The cookies were very intricate and delicious. To note, we picked up our order on Thursday morning for a party on Saturday and both the cake and cookies tasted like they had been baked Saturday morning, which was amazing.Thank you for a wonderful first experience! We will be back.“

“This cake was hands down the best birthday cake I have ever bought. I plan more parties than the average person, mostly baby showers, so I order a lot of cakes. This was hands down the best. You can tell that it is made with quality ingredients. A lot of thought has been put into the design. When I showed up to pick up my cake, I had a toddler and a baby with me. The owner graciously helped me get the cake out to my car. I was very appreciative of her kindness. 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hire Staggeringly Delicous to bake for your next event!“

La Morena Panaderia y tortillera Bakery • $
8659 Preston Hwy, Louisville

“We heard about La Morena through Yelp's virtual event with Farm + House and decided to visit this bakery in person to check it out. As we parked we noticed that OPEN light was off. It was an afternoon so we thought maybe they had closed, but when we were through shopping at the small Mexican grocery next door the sign was lit, so we went in. It's a small business and our visit was in the middle of a pandemic, so odd hours are understandable. The storefront is recognizable if you've been to other panaderias: trays and tongs for self-service, glass-doored cases with shelves of panes dulces and breads, a refrigerator with packaged slices of cake. True to their name, they also carry tortillas, chips, and bags of masa (the latter found in the refrigerated case). The pastry selection is pretty standard: conchas, donuts, filled pastries, orejas, marranitos, tri-color cookies, etc. At the counter, there's a book with images of cakes that can be special ordered. I thought we went overboard selecting pastries on our first visit, but for only $8 we got half a dozen cookies/pastries and a piece of tres leches cake. It was a steal; all were good. We've also ordered through Farm+House, which is nice since La Morena is a drive for us. This has enabled us to try more items, including their telera rolls, tortillas, and tortilla chips. It's definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. If you aren't in the area, maybe manufacture and excuse to be so you can check out these baked goods.“
