I had their cheeseburger and fries the other day and it was absolutely delicious, much too much for me to eat at one serving.
So today I wanted some Seafood Gumbo & so I called @ 10:30am to put my order in. Nobody answered the phone.”they weren’t open yet”. So I kept driving & was going to sit in the parking lot until they opened. @ 10:35 as I’m waiting for them to open. 2 employees were walking in & I stopped them & asked when I could make my order. The sweet lady said I’ll take your order & have it ready for 10:50 She took my order & then came out to my car to tell me it was ready & she...read full review

Chookie's | Seafood and Oyster Bar is a clean and welcoming, no frills basic establishment. The food is amazing, fresh, hot, and flavorful. The gumbo was unique with a chicken base, but the star is the grilled stacker; the flavors were amazing in every bite, fresh, and served hot. The food is a cross between home made and having the added pop of a chef. The steamed shrimp was good, and the boiled shrimp was great and hit the spot. However, the crab cakes had to be taken back for too much filling, and the french fries were lukewarm. The hot sausage poboy had very thin patties and skimpy condiments.
Service is average, though some staff are fabulous with frequent drink checks and friendly service. One sweet lady at the pick up window took an order early and brought it to a car so it wouldn't get cold. The atmosphere is indicative of a hometown restaurant, not overly fancy, but not overly bland, with easy conversation. It did take a bit longer than expected, but well worth the wait. If you don't care about ambiance or need drinks filled up regularly, this is a must visit place, especially for seafood PoBoy’s or plates.
