Got a tip 3 hours away from here to go to a little place called "A-bear's Cafe" in Houma for the best gumbo. Didn't disappoint. A-bear's has set a new personal standard for how I judge gumbos and I enjoyed every spoonful. Tried boudin for the first time, no reference but very flavorful and reminded me very strongly of a Cajun analog to Lion's Mane Meatballs. I grew up in Abita Springs. This reminds me of the Abita Cafe.An old house with wood floors. Beaded board ceiling and wallsA family doing good service for 3 generations and making good food and great warm memories. Good is fresh and savory.I had fresh fried catfish and white beans and rice lunch. An iced cold Barqs rootbeer. awesome experience for some authentic cajun cuisine. a group of us showed up at 6pm on a Friday - they had live music and the place was busy. felt like we were eating in somebody's living room, lots of locals who clearly frequent the place. food was great, i had the chicken & sausage gumbo which was delicious. they have won the award for best local gumbo something like 7 years in a row. server was funny and helpful.Parking: saw a bunch of kids with their families
