The food is good without a doubt. the service is mediocre at best. Which wouldn't be a problem, but they had a 20% automatic gratuity added to my bill (only a group of 4) which i felt wasn't properly disclosed to me prior to ordering. The last time I ate their the staff was outright rude, and then I was forced to pay 20% extra...adding insult to injury. When a bill is $150-$200, that automatic gratuity is significant.
order the garlic and herb char-grilled oysters!! amazing! the jambalaya was tasty also! Carl our waiter was extremely helpful.
We visited today for the first time while at the French Quarter fest. All I can say is that this restaurant is a MUST while visiting. We had the shrimp platter and the red beans and rice. The shrimp was so incredibly fresh and huge!! The red beans and rice is the BEST we’ve ever had (and we’ve had many). Our waiter was so friendly and accommodating, we sat out on the deck and enjoyed every moment. All of the food is made fresh and not frozen or canned.

French Market Restaurant and Bar - The Original is a highly recommended spot in the French Quarter, known for its delicious seafood and welcoming atmosphere. Visitors frequently praise the friendly and attentive service, highlighting servers like Taylor and Victor for their helpfulness and local insights. The restaurant offers a variety of flavorful dishes, including the chicken & sausage gumbo, Jambalaya Pasta, chargrilled oysters, seafood Alfredo, and boudin balls, all enjoyed by guests from different places, including Hawaii and Minnesota. Many describe their experience as amazing, with some mentioning the upstairs balcony where they could enjoy watching New Orleans while dining. The food is often described as great, with standout items like the seafood Alfredo, which some consider exceptional. The family-run restaurant treats customers like family, making it a must-do in the French Quarter. However, a few reviews mention less positive experiences, citing uncomfortable chairs and a less satisfying blackened shrimp dish, noting that portion sizes and seasoning varied. Overall, French Market Restaurant and Bar offers a memorable dining experience with delicious food and friendly service, making it a popular choice for locals and visitors alike.
