“Went for pre-dinner drinks. Had stylish wide leg jeans and a beanie (it was 9 degrees out). All good until our server told us we were only allowed in because they were not busy and jeans and a beanie were not their vibe. They were more going for a Miami nightclub vibe. It was 6 pm - in Boston We were one of two tables there. Unnecessary information.“

“I saw a Tiktok about Merengue Express and couldn't let it pass without trying it out. And let me tell you, I am glad that I did because the food was AMAZING! I ordered the spanish rice of the day which was Congri (black rice with black beans), Oxtails and Maduro (sweet plantain). The portion for my Merengue bowl was HUGE and for a reasonable price! I even shared with my coworker because I knew I wasn't going to finish it alone. I did a delivery with UberEats and one thing that sucks was that they didn't have Oxtails as a protein choice for their Merengue bowls but I did leave a message asking if they could replace the beef steak with oxtails and they did!!! I will definitely be ordering from Merengue Express again. Thank you! :)“

“The empanadas here are to die for. They're so delicious when they're hot and fresh from the fryer. I'm usually not patient enough to wait but when I do it's so worth it. They have a wide selection of empanadas so there's something for everyone. The staff are nice and they have a delivery/pick up service. The empanadas are large and have a flaky yummy crust. They also have tons of juices to choose from. The food may seem pricey but it's totally worth it. 10/10 would recommend supporting this local minority owned restaurant.“

“This is a “spanish” bar first and foremost. They have small tables if you want to sit and have something to eat. The interior needs a big time refresh but don't judge the place by it's appearance. The beer is cold and very affordable. The food is GREAT!! If you like typical Colombian food - this place is a home run!! Did I mention that the beer was cold and very affordable??! :-) It would get 5 stars from me if the interior wasn't so old.“

The environment was very clean (you can smell clean) and cordial during past business & social gatherings also. The Owner & all Employees provided superior customer service. My Allston Neighbors & I love their home made soup with the big size fresh vegetables. Most importantly, El Carrizal is not like other restaurants where they don't allow substitution on their dishes.“

Sandwiches were delicious but a real surprise was the quality of the fruit smoothies! My mango and passion fruit smoothie was so rich and summery, not drenched in sugar at all.“

I don't know what else to say, other than to say that this is the best Spanish food place I've ever ordered from. Given that I am pregnant, they make sure I get exactly what I want to eat; they even made chicken soup for me because I have a celery allergy. I genuinely love this place and will never stop ordering from them.“
