“I live in Bar Harbor, Maine, and one of my guests staying with us offered me a homemade bagel from this establishment. It's one of the best poppy seed bagels I've had in a long time, and the homemade chive cream cheese pairs so perfectly with the smoked salmon. It made my day eating this bagel after work. I love lox. It's one of the sweetest gifts a guest has ever given me. 💕 When I travel the coast looking at lighthouses this winter, this bagel shop will definitely be on my places to stop. . Bagels have a hard(ish) baked outside and a soft, fluffy inside. So incredibly good! Got the everything and salty bagels and the doughy poofy inside balanced out the salty flavors so well. Unfortunately when we went the limited edition vodka flavored cream cheese was sold out, but we still got to try the pesto butter and it did not disappoint! Pesto flavor was prevalent and the butter was so creamy. We each got the 3 bagels + 1 schmear deal, which was $15.

Service: the employees were so energetic and friendly. Absolutely loved their energy and the vibes!

Atmosphere: It was more of a grab and go so not much to say here, other than upbeat and casual!

Overall, highly recommend checking out a popup bagels, especially this location !“

“I stop here at least twice a week for bagels. I have to be honest- I heard about them on some food show and used to go to the one in the Seaport. This location though- despite being ten minutes farther off my route home- has THE NICEST STAFF EVER. Hands down. They are super friendly, good natured and the music is always great. “Walked into Le Cafe Bakery on Kneeland Street without much expectation and honestly left really impressed.

The space is cute and cozy, with a warm vibe that makes you want to sit for a bit instead of just grabbing something and leaving.

The tarts are definitely the highlight here.

The Dubai chocolate tart was my favorite. If you’ve seen the Dubai chocolate trend online, this actually lives up to it rich, layered, and really satisfying without feeling overhyped.

The ube cheesecake tart was also really good. The ube flavor felt authentic, the cheesecake was smooth, and it was nicely balanced overall. It also looks great, which is always a plus.

The caramel cheesecake croissant tart was the most indulgent of the three. Flaky pastry, creamy filling, and just the right amount of caramel everything worked really well together.

For anyone looking for vegan-friendly options, the plain bagel is a solid choice fresh, chewy, and well made. Some of the spreads (like the blueberry cream cheese) are vegetarian rather than vegan, but the staff are friendly and happy to help you figure out what works best.

Overall, everything felt thoughtfully made. If you’re looking for good tarts in Boston or a vegetarian-friendly bakery in downtown Boston, this place is definitely worth checking out.

“This is our favorite go to bagel spot in our neighborhood. Staff is always friendly, fresh bagels, and quick. Online ordering is a great option when you’re on the go. We love getting their bagels by the dozen for the house as they stay fresh for awhile. Highly recommend!“

The menu selection for sandwiches has offerings for everyone. You can create your own sandwich with toppings of your choice.

As visitors, it was a bit hard to know where exactly to stand to place our order.

Know that this place is very busy!

Walk-in orders:
1. Online order pick ups: walk-in and pick up your order to the left of the registers
2. Express orders: far right side; ordee up to one dozen uncut bagels, cream cheese, coffee
3. Individual orders: form ONE LINE at the left hand register. Keep to the right side of the wall while queued up. You are assigned to a worker and not a specific register.

Place bagel orders first, any sandwiches, loose bagels, etc. Then they make your sandwich, then drink orders, then payment.

Seating inside may be limited. It all depends.

Parking lot holds ~18 cars; turn around may be fast. Do NOT park across the street at Salem State or you will be towed.

Highly recommend the sandwiches (lots of meat); I should have gotten the Rare Roast Beef but opted for the Sausage, Egg & Cheese breakfast sandwich. VERY large and can feed two average people or enough for those that have a big appetite.

Corporate says that because this is a licensed store, they can choose not to....buyer beware for here and ANY location that is licensed on a college campus, airport or mall. “A hidden neighborhood gem we discovered while visiting Boston this past weekend. Our hotel was situated in a bit of a no-man’s land that made it difficult to do our usual walking to find good coffee in the AM but I’m glad we persisted. I found the Black Sheep Market after a refusal for settling for DD coffee. This spot was a brisk 10 min walk from our hotel- we got there shortly after doors opened on Sunday and while coffee drew us in we quickly discovered their incredibly solid selection of store made donuts and baked goods. I am going to be dreaming about the Boston Creme donut I left with for some time. Nothing better on the planet when it comes to donuts than that one right there. My husband ordered a cinnamon and sugar donut which he exclaimed melted in his mouth, and for our son who had been studying French- a chocolate croissant- delectable! The coffee - the reason we went at all- was hot, fresh, and delicious. Also warmed our hands on the cold walk back to the hotel for a bonus! The shop itself offered a wide variety of other goods - which we didn’t need that particular morning, but I’d love to have just around the corner if I lived in this Cambridge area neighborhood.

“Can't wait to go back. Wish we were in town longer to visit more than once. There so many options that sounded great. My husband had the #2 which is the Boston Common, Make You Own Breakfast Sandwich. I had the #9, the Beat which is Smoked Salmon, Plain Cream Cheese, Tomato, Cucumber, Red Onions, Alfalfa Sprouts & Capers. Both were Delicious and they did not skimp on the filling!! “Three of us went in yesterday around 11:45 for a quick lunch and we were all very happy: I had the cold turkey sandwich on a challah roll, the coleslaw and a secret dressing were on the sandwich and it was delicious. I'm also not a huge lover of pickles, but the nice big one accompanying the sandwich was good!

Other dishes were the chicken salad on a bagel and a bagel, schmear and veggies. Katie (I think that is her name???) took our order and brought it out as soon as it was ready, as well as checked in with us to see how everything was.

We sat along the window for people watching, Washington Square never disappoints! Embarrassed to say it was my first time in, but definitely will not be the last!“

“I visited this location on the morning of 5/22/2025, and I have to say—the staff made my entire experience. The morning crew was fantastic, especially the woman at the register, who I believe may have been the shift manager. She was attentive, kind, and truly went above and beyond.

I have a rare food allergy (alpha-gal), which can be tricky to accommodate, but when I explained it to her, she immediately took it seriously. She had the line wipe down surfaces and switch to clean utensils to ensure my food was safe. That kind of care and awareness is rare, and I appreciated it more than I can say.

“If you are anywhere near Berklee College of Music and you have not stepped into Pavement Coffeehouse on Boylston Street you are missing out on one of the most magical spots in the entire city. This place is more than a coffee shop. It is a daily ritual for students and locals and artists and anyone who wants to feel taken care of from the moment they walk in the door. There is something about this specific Pavement location that feels warm and alive the second you enter. You hear the grinders humming and the staff laughing with customers and you instantly know you are in the right place.

The coffee is consistently incredible. Not sometimes good and sometimes okay. Always incredible. The espresso tastes like someone who actually cares pulled it. The drip coffee is rich and full and never bitter. The lattes are silky and made with the kind of intention that you normally only find in small independent shops. You can tell they take their beans seriously and you can taste that care in every sip. Even on the busiest mornings the drinks come out consistent which says everything about how strong and trained the team is.

Then there are the bagels which deserve their own chapter in a book. Fresh chewy hot and perfect every single time. You can smell them before you even order and you already know you made the right choice. The breakfast sandwiches are legendary among Berklee students who basically live off them. You get this perfect mix of warm bagel buttery egg melty cheese and whatever add ons you choose. It is the type of food that makes your entire morning feel right.

But the thing that really makes this Pavement the top tier Pavement the elite Pavement the Pavement you secretly measure all other Pavement locations against is the manager. The manager at this store is on another level. Every great review that mentions the staff being sweet patient fast and welcoming starts with the leadership at the top. This person clearly knows how to build a team that actually likes coming to work. You can feel that energy in the room. The manager is organized calm positive and knows every regular by face. They create an environment where the staff moves like a well coordinated band. You can see them supporting the baristas checking on orders solving problems before anyone else even notices and doing it all with total kindness. A lot of places have managers who hide in the back. This one is hands on always present and sets the tone for how good the store feels. Berklee kids write whole essays about how good the service is here and that does not happen without someone incredible running the show.

Even when it is packed which happens often because everyone wants to be here it still feels smooth. The line moves fast. Drinks are accurate. The staff stays friendly. You never feel rushed and you never feel ignored. That balance is rare and it is the clearest sign that the manager is the heartbeat of this location.

The atmosphere is perfect for everything. Studying. Journaling. Hanging out with friends. Waking up before a morning class. Taking a break after a long lecture. The mix of music and conversation and the slight chaos of student life makes it feel alive in a really comforting way. There are always Berklee students carrying instruments or running to rehearsals which adds to the whole vibe. It feels like a creative hub where good coffee and good people intersect.

If you want coffee that is always consistent food that always hits service that always feels warm and a team that clearly loves what they do this is the Pavement to go to. It is the crown jewel of the Berklee neighborhood and a place that genuinely brightens your day. I would recommend it to anyone in Boston without hesitation.“
