“Go back in time to a diner that probably hasn't changed in 50 years....and that's a good thing! Simple straightforward food with great service and reasonable prices...hard to find on the Vineyard. When I asked for extra butter, the chef came over with a big spreader of butter and shmeared it onto the edge of my plate - I loved this LOL! If you can fit into the bathroom there is an old ketchup bottle as the soap dispenser! Again, love the kitschy charm of this place. In Florida, "over medium" eggs come with whites cooked fully and runny yolks. Asked for that here but got medium yolks...probably my fault: I should have just described how I wanted them cooked FYI. Delicious rye swirl toast and perfectly cooked bacon, which is hard to find. This is just no-frills good basic food. No foo-foo stuff. Home-fries only though...no hash browns; the only downside. To me home fries are just the lazy version of hash browns. But I'm just as happy without them so doesn't affect my opinion of the place. Note: This restaurant is barstool only at the counter - no tables so better to come by yourself or with a friend/spouse...no groups of 4+ etc.“

“Eureka! Finally we have found exceptional quality espresso on Martha's Vineyard! I've been to all the other establishments in town where overheated tasteless coffee with shaving cream on top has been the norm. Barista Adriana prepared Latte's this morning with a delicious creme topped with latte art. First sip confirmed that care was taken to perfect the espresso extraction with a smoothness in taste from the well roasted freshly ground coffee beans. Thank you for the quality and care that you offer. ❤️ We will definitely be back!“

“Visiting Martha’s Vineyard for the first time and ran across this shop on my bike ride. I don’t normally carry cash on me and I didn’t know the shop was cash only. The young man behind the counter was so nice and offered me a coffee since I only had a card on me. That is great customer service and that is why I will be back again. This time with cash though ?“

“Apparently there is also an Oaks Bluff location of this cafe, which saved us on a rainy day. No nonsense real barista, non Starbucks espresso based coffee. They roast their own beans and also offer a wide variety of other beans. In addition they offer smoothies, teas, and breakfast, although we only tried the coffee. Very friendly baristas. Highly recommend for a coffee break for seekers of real coffee.“

“A theme I found in Martha’s Vineyard was the feeling of being rushed. I ordered their lobster roll. The cashier rung me up. I wanted to add a soda. He rang me up again and then I decided I should get a water. The cashier rolled his eyes harder than a heavy rock rolling down a steep hill. While I get that I didn’t order everything at once. It’s my first time here and I was looking around. The lobster roll was good and apparently a small bag of lays potato chips are included. I am glad I tried it not sure I would want to try that again. One waterOne sodaOne lobster roll $44.69 (with a $5.83 tip included)“

“Behind The Bookstore is a gourmet café that opened in Edgartown, Massachusetts in May 2013. It was founded by husband and wife Jeffrey and Joyce Sudikoff. Jeffrey was the founder and chief executive officer of IDB Communications Group Inc., and a former part owner of the Los Angeles Kings hockey team. The couple had been summer residents on Martha's Vineyard since the 1970s and owned a home in Edgartown. When the bookstore Edgartown Books went up for sale in 2012, the couple decided to purchase it. They soon began fixing up an area in the back section of the store with the intention of turning it into a small café. Seating was available on the sun-drenched terrace behind the store. Following the café's success, the Sudikoffs moved it inside a former attorney's office behind the bookstore. The larger kitchen and café opened in 2015 and they added dinner service. Sails now cover the terrace (which acts as a roof) and a rain canopy was added on top for all-weather protection. My family and I had lunch at Behind The Bookstore this past summer while we were visiting Martha's Vineyard. Around lunchtime, my wife went inside the bookstore to check out the selection. While waiting outside with our kids, I noticed a menu on display for the café and was impressed with it. When my wife came back, I suggested that we have lunch "behind the bookstore". We were seated on the terrace and were impressed with the rain canopy hung over our heads. Our sons were tired and decided to take a nap in the stroller, so my wife and I just ordered lunch for the two of us. They had a cool bar area dubbed "The Hemingway Bar" that crafted some nice-looking cocktails. I had the "Royal Rising" (empress gin, pineapple, orgeat, lemon, dehydrated lemon) while my wife had the "A Night In Cabo" (tequila, campari, simple syrup, grapefruit, lime, lemon peel). Both were excellent! For food, we ordered and shared the "Chicken Sandwich" (slow cooker chicken breast, banana pepper tartare, arugula, tomato on garlic bread) and the "Italian Toast" (basil ricotta spread, tomato & garlic confit, prosciutto, fig balsamic glaze, sourdough). Both were so delicious and fresh-tasting! We had such a fun experience at Behind The Bookstore and would definitely return the next time we're on Martha's Vineyard!“

“As a strict creature of habit, it took me a while to start visiting the “new place in vineyard haven” but I am very glad I did. I usually don’t write reviews, but Catboat Coffee is an amazing place to stop in VH. The location is super convenient and parking is never an issue. The staff is always kind, even with strange requests or questions. I have never eaten Lebanese food, thus it has taken me a long time to branch out and ask about new foods and then try them. Catboats staff always has given me good recommendations when I ask. I have now eaten nearly everything on the menu, and I cannot complain about anything. The food is delicious, healthy, and filling portions. For the quality and quantity, the prices are amazing. Their packaging is eco friendly and they give a discount if you bring your own cup, which is very appealing to me. Eco-conscious businesses deserve more light. I have tried things I never thought I would and haven’t regretted a second of it. The staff and hospitality is the nicest part of this establishment by far. I work nights and often come in the morning/midafternoon very tired and they’re always patient and kind with me when I’m a little slower than the morning rush. Catboat has an atmosphere where you feel like you’re with friends or family. The coffee is amazing and their specialty drinks are not only creative but delicious. To top it all off, you can accumulate points rewards which is always a plus. This place is amazing and a great addition to the Tisbury marketplace. Cannot wait to see what winter and next summer bring.“

“Our family's go-to spot for a quick, filling meal. Winston's has great value (huge portions), great variety (always interesting rotating specials) and great service (consistently friendly). They have accommodated us with large breakfast sandwich orders, and they've made our day with fresh baked goods. They are efficient in the kitchen and have our order turned around quickly consistently, and their wide menu caters to large groups who have different tastes. A must-try and an unbeatable location too.“
