“The inside of Dave's Hot Chicken is a big, tall, colorful box with an echo. Bright murals cover the walls and ceiling, with huge red ventilation ducts overhead. There were dozens of customers waiting and dining. There's not much dine-in ambiance—it's more energetic than comfortable.

Our order took about 13 minutes, which wasn't bad considering how busy it's been since opening. I noticed two employees taking orders and about four people checking finished orders and notifying customers. I could see another half-dozen people working in the kitchen.

I ordered Dave's #1, Not Hot. At first, I thought the taste and texture were acceptable. Then I dipped it in the sauce and my taste buds sighed joyfully. The sauce was creamy and pink-orange, with a faint honey-mustard taste. The fries were crispy and seasoned. The pickles crunched—no sogginess.

I was surprised how well the chicken, sauce, fries, and pickles complemented each other. The diet Coke was a sweet contrast that made the meal complete. I'd return.“
