“This place was just SO good. They sell a variety of things, but most notably, the shaved ice. We ordered the mango sticky rice shaved ice, which was definitely the most popular as all the people next to us ordered the same thing as well. The shaved ice was the most perfect, milky, melts-in-your-mouth texture, the mango pieces ripe and soft, and the cream on top the perfect hint of being lightly sweet. We personally found the complementary mango syrup to be too sweet for our tastes, but that’s just personal preference. Highly recommend. We thought the portion was perfect for 3 people, but I’d say each bingsoo could be eaten with 2-4 people. They’re each around $13-16 so it’s relatively affordable when splitting.

Service was so good. The girl working and bringing us food was just so sweet and kind. The man working (who we assumed was the owner) was so eager and sweet as well. The food came out super quickly.

Atmosphere was definitely more of the late night hangout vibe when we went. It was loud, semi-packed, casual, but we were still able to hold conversation and it fit the vibe. During crowded peak times, it’s definitely more of an eat and leave place rather than a sit down for a few hours type, so just keep that in mind!“

The only downfall is that some cookies do sell out fast, so get there early if you have your eye on something popular.“

The space is small, almost deliberately so—light wood, clean lines, a quiet hum of conversation. It feels less like a destination and more like a pause. The kind of place you slip into between obligations, not to indulge extravagantly, but to recalibrate.

The dessert arrives without theatrics: a swirl of matcha and milk soft serve, crowned and partially engulfed by glossy black boba. But what looks simple quickly turns layered, almost architectural in its contrasts. The soft serve itself is restrained—this is not the aggressively sweet, artificial matcha that dominates so many menus. The green tea carries a gentle bitterness, clean and slightly grassy, grounded by the mellow sweetness of the milk base. It’s balanced, deliberate, and, importantly, adult.

Then there’s the boba. Still warm.

That detail changes everything.

The pearls sit beneath and along the side of the ice cream, their heat slowly bleeding into the cold cream, creating a shifting boundary between temperatures. Each bite becomes unstable in the best way: cold turns lukewarm, creamy meets elastic chew, sweetness deepens and then recedes. “I am Asian American and have been eating mochi my entire life. Crystal's Bakery has forever changed how I think and feel about Mochi. Crystal's Mochi is like a heavenly cloud of fruit and cream that melts in your mouth. Gorgeous, silky soft texture unlike anything. It's not too sweet but addicting. Store-bought, rubbery chewy mochi has been downgraded to gummi status after eating Crystal's handmade mochi.
I also had mochi doughnuts, mung bean smoothie and plain sticky rice. Perfect Asian flavors that remind me of the homeland. Everything excellent!
It's a tiny shop and the place was jam packed with lines during our entire visit, for good reason.
I drove over an hour to get to Crystal's Bakery. It was no sacrifice. It is absolutely worth it. I will be making the trip again and many times more.“

She showed me how to order, recommended some delicious cookies, and helped me sign up for the Crumble Cookie rewards! She even engaged with my child and my niece with special needs! “love visiting the Jamaica Plain store! Since the weather has been getting warmer, I've gone a few times this month and have to say the staff is amazing. They are very warm, friendly, patient, and have great insight on all the flavors and products. Because of them I found my favorite Fomu flavor. It was Rose Lavender but I was introduced to Lemon Meringue, tart lemon ice cream (coconut base), with graham cracker crust and yummy vegan marshmallow! It was so tasty I went back a second (and third) time to buy a point. Don't miss this flavor and the wonderful staff (surprisingly calm and chill even under pandemic pressure). “I don't usually write reviews but I've been living in Dorchester for the last five years and Cocoleaf is a standout establishment to me. There are few mid-range food businesses in Boston where you feel like you're actually getting your money's worth it and not just subsidizing the very-high-cost-of-living in this city. Cocoleaf/Akoko Cafe is one of those places. I've had dessert, drink and food items from across their menu and every time I've been blown away by how unexpectedly fresh, unique and delicious the flavors are. The portions are generous and fair for the price. I don't think I've ever had something subpar from here, and if they do mix up my order, the staff are quick to correct and replace it. This place is a hidden gem for anyone who doesn't live in the neighborhood. I will never stop patronizing this establishment for as long as they keep doing what they are doing.“

“I have been hooked on Richie's Italian Ice. 10oz..with these great flavors cherry, watermelon, strawberry, lemon lime, raspberry, orange cream, root beer. Sour apple.. Etc. I found them at Raynham Market Basket 4 for $5. Only trouble the flavor are limited. So I run to other all market basket stores around to find different flavors.. the Product is Super hit this season and I bet it will go fast this summer.. “Saw this constantly on tt and reels so I had to try, and it definitely did not disappoint! It was right next to a Photo Booth area we took photos in so we went here for a quick stop!

Food: It was SO good! I got the Thai tea version, and it had Thai tea soft serve in a hand-wrapped mochi, with warm boba on the bottom and a little “pipette” of Thai milk tea to drizzle on top. The mochi was so soft, the soft serve creamy, the warm boba a perfect complement, and the pipette just a cute, quirky addition. 😛✨

Service: It was lovely! The girl who was my cashier was so patient and kind as I asked to try multiple flavors because I couldn’t decide. The people making the desserts were organized and quick as well.“

“Stopped by Chip City - Newbury Street and it’s honestly in such a prime location. Being right on Newbury Street, there’s constant foot traffic and the place had a steady flow of people coming in and out.

The staff were friendly and efficient, even with it being busy. Service felt smooth and welcoming, which always makes the experience better.

They had a good variety of cookies to choose from, including one vegan option. I tried the vegan chocolate chip cookie and it was actually really good. Soft, nicely textured, and not overly sweet which I personally appreciate. It didn’t feel heavy or sugary like some cookies can.

Overall, solid spot if you’re walking around Newbury and craving something sweet, with a vegan option available too.“

“We had a great time here on Sunday! The service was nice and quick, and the menus were thorough. My only complaint about the food is that the shaved ice was super icy, as in the ice was still in huge pieces, barely shaved. Other than that, the boba and mango tasted fresh, the prices were very reasonable, and I enjoyed it overall.“

I took off one star cause the ice cream is close to being perfect, but not quite. The cookie dough ice cream just simply didn’t have enough cookie dough bites in it. We all know those are the best part so what are we skimping for!

The cake batter ice cream had too many sprinkles for my taste. It’s already a very sweet flavor so it would be nice to have the option to add sprinkles instead.

On the other hand, the fruit and sorbet style flavors were perfection!

Last point, the employees all seemed like they hated their lives here. I respect that ofc cause I’ve worked many jobs that I hate, but it gave me the sense something could be done behind the scenes to make it a better work environment.

Clean, bright with some tables for dining in. Prices start at $6 USD for a small drink to $9, $10+ for large size. They have reward points for all their shops in the franchise.“

“My go to spot in Allston for tofu pudding, grass jelly, bingsu, and drinks! This place is always busy, and the desserts and drinks are consistently yummy. My favorite order is their signature grass jelly, super refreshing, especially on a hot day. The staff are always nice, too.
It does get extremely crowded toward the evening, and when packed, the place can have an unpleasant smell. I’d recommend ordering to go if possible, just not the bingsu since it’s best enjoyed fresh in store.“

“Insomnia Cookies is my go-to spot whenever I’m craving something sweet late at night. The cookies are usually warm, soft in the middle, and super satisfying — especially the classics like Chocolate Chunk and Snickerdoodle. When they’re fresh out of the oven, they really hit the spot.

That said, the experience can be a little inconsistent. During busy hours, wait times get long, and delivery can sometimes show up colder than expected. Prices are on the higher side as well, especially if you’re ordering multiple items or adding ice cream.

Overall, though, it’s a fun late-night treat with a great variety of flavors, and the convenience is hard to beat. When they’re warm and fresh, they’re absolutely worth it.“
