Beautiful time celebrating Chinese new year with Hon. Philip and Anita Lee
This review is easy. Food was terrific and authentic. Stacks of dim sum were pushed in carts. That's how the traditional dim sum experience should be enjoyed. Also, the ambience was good. Easy verdict...we will be back.
We stopped by Kum Koon Garden last weekend after a morning of walking around downtown, and it hit the spot for a late lunch. The salt and pepper squid was crispy and perfectly seasoned, easily the best we've had in Winnipeg in years. Kum Koon Garden is a popular restaurant known for its delicious dim sum dishes and authentic Cantonese cuisine. It has a busy atmosphere, making it a great place for groups, celebrations, or family meals. With large, banquet-style spaces and round tables featuring rotating “lazy Susan” centers, it is perfect for sharing dishes, whether for birthdays, family get-togethers, or a Sunday meal with friends. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends when many food carts are available and service is fast. The restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes, including dim sum, ginger beef, fried noodles, and coconut buns. Food is served on carts that are brought to the table, allowing customers to choose which dishes they want to try. The staff are friendly and helpful, and regulars enjoy sampling a variety of dim sum and traditional dishes in one visit. Families are welcome, making it a great place for gatherings, although there is no dedicated children's area. One drawback is the parking situation, as the paid parking lot is often full, requiring customers to find street parking. However, the restaurant will reimburse the cost of parking when customers present their receipt. Overall, Kum Koon Garden offers delicious food and a lively, inviting atmosphere, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic Chinese cuisine. It is worth noting that vegetarian options are limited, as meat is a significant part of the menu.
