“First visit; I went for Restaurant Week. I ordered the chicken corn chowder, the short rib ravioli and the caramel cheesecake. The chowder was excellent, a great balance of corn and chicken and a goodly amount--but not too much--pepper. I loved it...and a very generous portion! The ravioli was super too--cooked to perfection, stuffed to capacity with cheese, accompanied by a nice hunk of well-seasoned and -cooked short rib. I wasn't able to finish it, so I took some home. I took the cheesecake home too and ate it after a couple of conf calls. Just the right amount of caramel with a couple of strawberries and a creme Anglaise sauce. Scrumptious!! I don't remember many occasions when I've loved all three courses of a meal, but that was certainly the case tonight. I can't wait to go back.“

“Great dive. This is a bar to go to if you also want a filling dinner in a non fussy environment. I had the pork belly gnocchi and was pleasantly surprised, though it was very indulgent and you should definitely order to share and then pair with something vegetal.“

The staff, and owners, who live in the neighborhood, are consistently kind, welcoming, and professional. That is a big part of why this place works so well.
And if you’ve never had the fried eggplant fries, fix that immediately.
One of the best bars in Washington, DC. One of the best spots in Columbia Heights for dinner, brunch, drinks, or a dance party.

“Recently hosted my birthday party here and it was an amazing experience! Super easy reservation process with clear communication. The upstairs is a great, private space. Specifically want to shoutout Kos who helped coordinate and was our bartender for the evening! Highly recommend to anyone looking to host an event!“

“A hidden gem, we had a Large Party of 8, Mother’s Day with no reservations. After being turned away from 2 other restaurants, no seating. We came to The commons. Where we were welcomed to a spacious table. Great, no fantastic personal service from Sayeed & staff. Good food & drinks. Nice atmosphere, I most definitely will be back. Oh did I say there was no crowd, which allowed us to just really enjoy our Mother’s Day Lunch.“
