Black Hog BBQ & Bar Reviews
Outstanding! I am up here for work from Florida, and as many times as I have been to Frederick, I can't believe I have not eaten here sooner.
The atmosphere is wonderful! There is nothing better than the smell of smoked BBQ filling the air. Ample parking, and I love the location.
The food is fantastic! I had the potato salad, sweet potatoes, and 2 meats (Arkansas Brisket which are burnt tips and Hot Links). The platter comes with pickled onions, pickles, and cornbread. It...read full review
Service was good. Nice and accommodating. The atmosphere was fine. Nothing special but you aren't in a BBQ place for atmosphere.
The brisket was bad. Dry. Bark had no bite to it. Fat cap wasn't trimmed or at least looked like it. The sauces weren't very good either.
The burt ends where just cubed meat. Way too much sauce. Couldn't taste the meat. The Mac and cheese was average. I don't like it dry. The brown sugar sweet potatoes were fine.

Black Hog BBQ & Bar in Middletown is a popular restaurant known for its quality barbecue and friendly service. Originally starting in Frederick, Maryland, the chain now has four locations, with the Middletown spot being the newest. The restaurant is situated in a strip center with ample parking, making it convenient to visit. The atmosphere is typical of BBQ places, with metal trays, butcher paper, and plastic silverware, creating a casual and relaxed vibe.
Guests praise the food for its delicious flavors and good value. Many reviews highlight the excellent pulled pork and ribs, which have a smoky, campfire flavor that stands out. The chopped pork platter, potato salad, sweet potatoes, and the famous BBQ meats like Arkansas Brisket and Hot Links receive high marks. Meals are often served with sides such as pickled onions, pickles, cornbread, and sometimes greens, all enjoyed by visitors after activities like backpacking. Some mention that the restaurant’s atmosphere is only four stars, as it is similar to other chain-style BBQ spots, but the quality of food more than makes up for it.
Staff members are consistently described as friendly and attentive, contributing to a positive dining experience. Prices are reasonable given the portion sizes and quality of the food. While most reviews are very positive, a few mention that some sides, like baked beans, could be improved, and some wish for a broader draft beer selection. Overall, Black Hog BBQ & Bar offers a satisfying and enjoyable barbecue experience with a welcoming atmosphere.
