Amato's flagship takeout shop in Portland invented the Italian sandwich back in the 1950's (I think). I believe it's a variation on what are called "hoagies" elsewhere. They charged 25 cents at the time and went up to a staggering 35 cents sometime in the 1960's. I remember them from my childhood and they still taste just like they used to. Ate at the other location and it was some of the best pizza I have ever had. This location did not disappoint either. They make some solid pizza, good dough, good sauce, and perfectly cooked. There was no point in trying other places. Amatos won me over with the first bite.
