Sammy's Deluxe Reviews
My review is based off of the tamales just ordered. I grew up in Panama and it was one the best treats to get fresh tamales. It didn’t happen very often- but when it did, I loved them so much. And obviously in Maine- it’s almost impossible to find them- especially authentic. I was quite impressed with Sammy’s take on tamales. Of course- they are not the exact replica of what I had- but they are very impressive. And it’s A LOT of work to make them. It’s not Taco...read full review

Sammy's Deluxe in Rockland is a hidden gem with a delicious menu and friendly staff. The chef whipped up an amazing Sammy cheeseburger, perfectly cooked with melted cheese and a side of pickle. The atmosphere is cozy, with old-timey music playing in the background. The mezcal margarita is a must-try, along with the hake dish and chicory salad. Traditional Boston brown bread is also available, making it a unique find. The food here was amazing, and service was top notch. Customers recommend trying the melon and eel bisque, the haddock snack, marinated mussels, and oysters. The mussels were enjoyed as a ceviche in a citrus, onion, and cucumber marinade. The brown bread is excellent, slightly crispy, with raisins and molasses, and pairs well with the meal. The sourdough from Brazen Baking is moist and thick, though it looks different from the online photo. The eggplant cutlet with trumpet mushrooms was highly praised, and the Sammy's Cheeseburger was very satisfying. The swordfish dish received good feedback, but the pasta dish was disappointing and overpriced. Some guests found the vibe to be eclectic and funky-disheveled, with plastic table covers, yard-sale lighting, and a ceiling fan from a big box store. The music, mostly 1960s jazz, was at a good volume for conversation. QR code menus were a bit inconvenient, and service could sometimes be confusing, but overall, the experience was positive. The cocktails, especially the mezcal margaritas, varied in quality. Despite mixed experiences, many customers find Sammy's Deluxe to be a worthwhile spot for good food, drinks, and a cozy atmosphere, especially those seeking a fresh, unknown dining experience.
