If you’re anywhere near Skowhegan and haven’t been to The Bankery, stop what you’re doing and GO. I walked in expecting a simple treat and walked out with a full heart, a full stomach, and an unforgettable experience.

First off, Mackenzie and Grace deserve a standing ovation. Their kindness, attention to detail, and warm hospitality made me feel like family. They handled a full case of French cream horns (yes—12 cream horns with raspberry filling) like total pros, all while smiling and keeping the vibe welcoming and cheerful.

I also grabbed a sausage, egg & cheddar croissant, a chocolate croissant, and a strawberry & cream cheese croissant—and every single bite was next-level bakery bliss. Flaky, rich, and perfectly balanced. You can tell the bakers care.

Speaking of bakers, I had the pleasure of chatting with Mike, who not only shared his love for baking but gave me a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the building’s history and attached theater, which adds a whole layer of cool charm to this already awesome place.

I even got to meet Matt, the owner, who was incredibly kind and clearly passionate about his team and community.

And yes—this bakery is actually inside a beautiful old bank! Vaults, high ceilings, historic charm—it’s like walking into a pastry-filled time capsule.

Final verdict: 5 stars all day. This is more than a bakery—it’s an experience. I’ll absolutely be back, and if you’re ever in Richmond, stop by Morning Moose Coffee—we’ll do our best to match the same level of amazing service and community spirit that The Bankery delivered.”

“We had Sunday brunch for 12 at the Miller’s table. Our group included children and adults. Everyone greatly enjoyed the food and the service with a smile from our server, Elle. The menu includes choices for every palate and the food is fresh, homemade and with signature touches. The space is beautiful and comfortable. We did call ahead and made a reservation because our party was large.”

The staff is friendly and the food is good. The chips and salsa are so good I could have eaten them as a meal. My husband ordered the shrimp tacos which were very flavorful and came with a good quantity of shrimp.”

It was such a pleasant stop, it has become our "go to" restaurant when we want a nice drive with the reward of doubly excellent food. As far as the "atmosphere", I couldn't say because the food was so good and service was so friendly everything else was blotted out ! The poutine was the best I ever had, don't believe your wife when she says "we can share one." even if there is enough for two--just so good!!! Also,, the food was affordable - we are on social security. I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience it was!”

“My mom took her granddaughters (12 and 3) there yesterday for a weekly Kayla ice cream cone. After paying $9, she was given two bowls of vanilla ice cream, supposedly lemon and kiwi flavored…they were plain vanilla. When she explained to the girl what the problem was, she had no solution but a blank stare. Unacceptable.”

“I have eaten here before and it's always been great food. This morning I was not impressed with my food. I asked for med fried eggs( & explained that the white be done and the yolk runny) & corned beef hash and toast was worn it. I got super burnt hash & the eggs were both fried with hard yolk. The toast was not served with butter or jelly, nor was I asked if I wanted any. I showed the food to the waittress & asked her to inform the cook about my food so she could hopefully not make this mistake with another customer. It was also served to me almost 5 min AFTER my friends got their food. I did eat the hash that wasn't burnt with only the hard egg yolks( the wires were crispy on the edges). I asked for butter and jelly for my toast. I will return because I love their food, but this morning I was looking forward to having a delicious breakfast with my friends. So. Food those reasons I have a 3 because my friend's food was very good for them.”
