“This is among the most confusing dive bars in (greater) Portland. It's effectively on the SMCC campus, but is in absolutely no apparent way a "college bar." Its general vibe is a perpetually dark, quiet, locals-only sort of dive that makes considerably more sense as a community staple in a working class neighborhood, yet it's effectively on the campus of an immaculate community college and mere steps from postcard-worthy views and a beach teeming with affluent tourists flocking to Air BnBs in some of the area's most expensive real estate. Is it the "last great holdout" for "real locals?" Is it an investor's elaborate ruse to keep the lot's property value down? Will you get 86'd if you try to order an imported beer? Who knows! Karaoke on Wednesdays.“
“Best part: If you squeeze in between the desk and chair, you can sit on the floor right next to the (floor to ceiling) window, and it's like sitting on the edge of a cliff looking out over the Turnpike. The noise level is well-controlled, and it's quite peaceful looking at cars and trucks roll by from six stories high. Needs to be high room on the back of the West tower for this effect. Quietest a/c / air system in any hotel I've stayed in, and the controls were pretty legible. Bed was comfy and slept well. Some mystery spots on the coverlet. If you're a DIY type, take along a scraper and some paint and you can fix the peeling paint in the bathroom. Stay away from the breakfast, if you're not used to a mass-market diet, either way you'll do just as well at McDonald's. 'Fridge is useful if you want to lightly freeze things. If you want the good ol' days of a freshly-made bed every day, get on it immediately. We waited til day 3, and despite obediently ordering 24 hrs in advance, chaos still ruled when we returned at 6 pm. The same fellow running check-in eventually arrived with a few towels; we decided he was probably running the whole place on his own that night.“

“A nice selection of mostly local beers. There’s a small section of coolers stocked with different local beers and cider for purchase. Their sampler is decently priced at 18 dollars for 4 small glasses. 22 beers and cider on tap. I included the list as of June 20, 2025. Would return.“

“Where else can you get Belgian beers on tap and get threatened with violence by the server? Happened to me 8-13-23 4pm out on the deck. Never will I bring out-of-Towners there again.“

“We tried this restaurant for the first time last night and our experience was fantastic! The staff was so welcoming and quick to take care of us, which made the experience feel relaxed and enjoyable right from the start. The food was absolutely delicious—cooked perfectly, beautifully plated, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. The portion sizes were just right: generous without being overwhelming. I also loved the atmosphere! The music added to the vibe without being so loud that we had to shout across the table. It’s rare to find a place that gets everything right, but this one did. We will definitely be back!“

“✨ Testimonial for Bistro Leluco ✨ After teaching last night, I finally had the joy of dining at Bistro Leluco in South Portland — and what an incredible experience! The warm, welcoming atmosphere and sweet décor made it feel instantly special, with both cozy indoor seating and a charming outdoor option. Owners Antonio and Michele, who met in New York and brought their passion for food to Maine, have truly created something magical here. The restaurant, named after their three children, is filled with heart — and it was especially meaningful for me since little Luca is one of my former Tikes students. I just had to experience it firsthand! The food did not disappoint — we shared several flavorful small plates, and the chicken kabob was absolutely delicious. Every dish was fresh, unique, and beautifully prepared. If you’re looking for a place that blends incredible food with a heartfelt story and atmosphere, Bistro Leluco is a must-visit!“
