“The food here is really delicious, but honestly, the prices are a bit steep for such a casual spot. It felt like they were nickel-and-diming on everything. A $17 burger should come with fries, but instead, they charge $4 for a fries upgrade (since the burger comes with chips), and the fries themselves were just mediocre. I don’t understand how that’s an “upgrade” when a side of fries typically costs that much on its own. The toppings were another surprise — $1 for each veggie like tomato, onion, and lettuce seemed a bit much.

That being said, we really enjoyed the food. The burger was great, and we also got the mango habanero wings as an appetizer (6 wings for $9.99), which were phenomenal. Service was also solid.“

“Cash only, but they have an ATM. Food is delicious and more affordable than a lot of places in the area. Everyone behind the bar has always been very friendly, starting with Rick who retired a few years and carrying on with the new bartenders. I also love that it’s been around since the 1930s, as one of the first bars around to reopen after prohibition. It’s definitely a neighborhood gem!“

“Absolutely loved the vibe of this place. The drinks were yummy and fancy feeling, but not to my wallet. They had good happy hour deals, a friendly bartender, and a nice rooftop patio. Excited to see this place get a bit more lively and appreciated, it has the potential to be quite fun. The food was a lil random, I wish there were a few more bar snack options other than a shrimp hot dog or street corn with crickets on it, but although eclectic and not what I was in the mood for, it was still quite good. At happy hour, got 3 margs and 2 plates for around $45“

“Best part: If you squeeze in between the desk and chair, you can sit on the floor right next to the (floor to ceiling) window, and it's like sitting on the edge of a cliff looking out over the Turnpike. The noise level is well-controlled, and it's quite peaceful looking at cars and trucks roll by from six stories high. Needs to be high room on the back of the West tower for this effect. Quietest a/c / air system in any hotel I've stayed in, and the controls were pretty legible. Bed was comfy and slept well. Some mystery spots on the coverlet. If you're a DIY type, take along a scraper and some paint and you can fix the peeling paint in the bathroom. Stay away from the breakfast, if you're not used to a mass-market diet, either way you'll do just as well at McDonald's. 'Fridge is useful if you want to lightly freeze things. If you want the good ol' days of a freshly-made bed every day, get on it immediately. We waited til day 3, and despite obediently ordering 24 hrs in advance, chaos still ruled when we returned at 6 pm. The same fellow running check-in eventually arrived with a few towels; we decided he was probably running the whole place on his own that night.“

“We visited Margaritas in Portland, ME today to celebrate my mother’s 70th birthday. Anthony was our waiter and he was attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel Important even on a super busy day. Our meals were fantastic. Our daughter has a shellfish allergy and he made sure we knew any possible dangerous choices for her. “This place is great for room service or eating in the restaurant. Friendly staff, friendly guests, and multiple comfortable places to sit and chill. I stay at the adjacent hotel 3+ times a year because of the food options, bar and location.“

“Last minute accommodations: My daughter’s high school graduation/pool party celebration had been canceled twice, and we were at a loss. Chaps’ upstairs event room saved us. This kid works two jobs in our community and she deserved the great time we had today. Our locals look out for one another and today was proof. Thank you, Chaps Saloon.“

Fond memories of slab from great beer events held during Maine Beer Week years ago. Along those lines, you could always count on a great taplist with beers from Maine and further. This was a favorite spot of my wife and I to grab some slab style pizza with a brew. Their thin crust pizzas were solid as well, but my favorite food option here has always been the meatball sandwich. It seems to be tough times for many Portland restaurants so if you have favorites spots go out and support them! Thanks for all the memories slab!“

“Have always loved Bayside Bowl, but their parking situation is a disappointment. Admittedly it was clearly my fault for not paying attention to the parking signs, but my car was towed yesterday from the premises and I was charged $260 cash to retrieve my car from Riverside Street in Portland. It was my birthday and we were celebrating first at Batson River and then we planned to go to Bayside's rooftop deck to continue our evening's celebrations. After leaving the distillery, after only one hour, I was shocked to see that my car had been towed away. Again, my fault. Please be mindful of the parking signs if you visit this establishment. The money charged for an accidental parking violation is greedily exorbitant and predatory in my opinion. I hope that the owner is not profiting from this, and if he or she is, I hope they are putting the money towards a good community cause to better the Portland Bayside neighborhood.“
