“We visited on a late Saturday afternoon in mid-June 2025.

We found street parking a couple blocks away. The cafe is in the basement of the museum near the bathrooms and water fountains. There is a large meeting room or lecture all auditorium thing we believe too just further down the basement.

We did not actually eat anything here but we did take a bunch of pictures hoping to help others out. We actually didn't see any staff while we visited and we weren't sure if they were already closed for the day or what.“

“This place has great food. The Portland cafe is always crowded at the typical times people get hungry so plan accordingly. The wait is long at those times, but worth it. I’ve had the bagels (divine), the maple cream cheese (less so) and a couple of their melts and the Cape Cod chicken salad. The chicken salad sandwich is in a class of its own. Light on mayo, heavy on tastebud excitement, this quickly became a personal favorite. The multigrain bread is a meal in itself. Delightful! On one visit, I was waiting for a longer spell and had the chance to observe a busboy getting his hustle on behind the scenes and I couldn’t have been more impressed. I know this hard work from first-hand experience a million years ago when I was starting out, and commitment like his speaks to a core work ethic that is admirable and often hard to find. His efficiency, adherence to a-cut-above cleanliness protocols and his quiet, humble dedication to keeping the business’ back end running so the front end could shine…well, it was nothing short of impressively spectacular.
