“***update: I am editing my review a few weeks later- I should have done so sooner! The restaurant manager called my husband to apologize for our experience. They sent us a gift card in the mail so we can give them another chance. The customer service is greatly appreciated!! We look forwarding to coming back to use the gift card and give the restaurant another shot.***

Really disappointed in our experience at the Monstweag this afternoon on Mother’s Day. We made a reservation for 3pm. We left at 4:38 and our appetizer hadn’t even been started yet. We spoke to the waitress and after learning our app hadn’t been started, we requested the bill and left. We were told it would still be an hour before we got our appetizer and we had three very young extremely hungry children. The server was apologetic but we were not offered a concession, discount or anything (we had ordered 6 drinks at this point) for the extraordinarily long wait and lack of communication about it. I don’t normally expect anything like this but I was frankly blown away at the lack of communication or accommodation considering the circumstances - on Mother’s Day nonetheless! We’ve been to Monstweag several times in the past and always had a good experience. This was out of character for this restaurant and really disappointing. We left deciding where to try to get a pizza to try to get some food in the kids, knowing it would be too late to get a reservation anywhere else on Mother’s Day. I debated whether to write a review but I do think after an experience like this management should receive honest constructive feedback. It was a disappointing experience to say the least.”

“I got coupons in the mail and thought this might be a good time to give the place a try. I live in Bath and just don't ever cross the bridge for some reason. The service and food were good. I always chuckle a little when I see the toast, it's just something that I don't expect, it's good and all, just not expected.

The reason for the low stars on the atmosphere is it just doesn't look and feel clean. This is my first time here in a very long time and I will be back to use another coupon and do an update.”

“My wife and I have been searching high and low for a top-shelf dining experience in Maine since we arrived. Today, we drove 2-1/2 hours from Bar Harbor to Wiscasset to eat at “In a Silent Way.” It exceeded all expectations. James Beard-level food and wine. From the oysters to the steak tartare and raspberry panna cotta, everything was magnificent. Well worth the drive. Confident sharing, In a Silent Way, is the most elevated food in Maine. And lovely service as well. Gushing.”

“This place was wonderful - friendly, lively atmosphere, but, still relaxing and suitable for conversation. Server was phenomenal . Food was solid and well prepared. We had the cheese curds - they were crispy without being super greasy and came with a delicious mustard dip - and burgers, which were juicy and delicious. A great stop off the I-295!”

“Let me put the cart before the horse and tell you this was one of the best, if not the best, experiences I have had at a restaurant. Corrinna was lovely. She took time to explain to this uninitiated wine consumer the differences between wines, glasses, and tasting, as well as pairing with foods. Speaking of food, this was also splendid. We started with oysters, which was a first, calamari, pork belly, arancini, and focaccia that melted in your mouth. My main course was the Swordfish with sweet potato puree, fingerling, and swordfish "bacon" jam. This is a silent gem that I selfishly stays quiet for my purposes, but Back River Bistro needs to be visited by anyone who loves a small curated dining experience. Much success to Matt & Corrinna. It is much deserved.”

“Definitely some of the best ice cream I've ever had. There's so many choices that it's almost impossible to figure out what to get. They only take cash which is kind of frustrating though. There is an ATM on site.”
