Went back on our July 4th Detroit visit. It's been years. Still a cool atmosphere. Food has gone down hill though. Coney dogs used to have some meat in the Coney sauce, now it's just brown gravy. You can get ground beef added if your interested in a $6.75 hot dog...not the same. The ketchup is a bargain brand and had weird taste.
Had the snappiest hot dog ever here. The service was delightful and the fries were piping hot. I walked past this place headed to another eatery and the smells emitting from inside made me do a u-turn and I ended up sitting down for a

Came here for the first time....and of course we went to their friend next door. Interesting as it seems like 80% of reviews like Lafayette Coney Island better than American but at least on this night both my dining companion and I liked American better. Sauce was more spicy and had more depth. LaFayette sauce to us seemed like canned hot dog sauce. Detroit icon!
