Balkan House Ferndale Reviews
Beautiful location, clean and cozy, excellent service.. the Döner kebab & fries did not disappoint... Will definitely be returning to get a taste of being back in Germany and getting a Döner.
Phenomenal. The food came out quick and it did not disappoint. I got the Chevapi sandwich and fries (SO MANY FRIES) which came with a side of a red pepper dipping sauce and a thicker version of sour cream which I forgot the name of. The owner was delightful and I really dug the laid back atmosphere. So many new restaurants in Ferndale are forcing this upscale hipster vibe down your throat. It’s really nice to just sit and eat good food and know you’re supporting a small business.
I’ve had The Balkan House in Ferndale once before, but this was my first time going to the Hamtramck location. The place is small but cute. Almost home like. It is in a house after all. Their food never falls short of delicious. I got the staple of a doner kabob (chicken) with their house seasoned fries. It seems large when it hits the table, but it’s almost the perfect size after you’re done eating it. It doesn’t leave you hungry but also not overly full.

Balkan House Ferndale offers authentic Balkan cuisine with a focus on their popular Döner bowl and Doner Kebab chicken/lamb. Many customers have praised the high-quality food, including dishes like pljeskavica and Sopska Salad, which remind them of home. The food is often described as incredible and generous in portion, with the bowl providing enough for two dinners. The restaurant also serves Turkish coffee and homemade Kajmak, a delicious cream cheese/butter spread. The staff is friendly and attentive, engaging warmly with guests and providing helpful recommendations. While the space is limited, making it ideal for small groups or takeout, guests appreciate the friendly service and flavorful meals. Some recent reviews mention a decline in food flavor and quality since 2020, with bread becoming dry and sandwiches losing their taste. Despite this, the friendly workers and fun picnic atmosphere with seasoned French fries remain notable highlights. Overall, Balkan House Ferndale is a great spot for a quick, tasty, and authentic Balkan experience.
