“Small town, dated, dive bar. The waitress was superb and had such a great personality. The food was mostly good. We had a variety that we ordered including the fisherman's platter, the Philly cheesesteak, the cod, the 1/2 lb bacon cheeseburger, curly fries, chicken parmesean bites, and jalapeño poppers. The chicken parmesean bites were not what any of us expected, a plain chicken nugget with marinara and parmesean on top they were not good. One order of curly fries was very overdone to the point where there was no potato left just a shell that crunched but the other were seasoned well and very tasty. The rest of the food was phenomenal with very large portions. The dinner come with multiple sides but the burger/ philly did not.”

For me, two of those places were Just Brew It in Union Grove, Wisconsin, and the North Star Bar in Rochester, Minnesota. At Just Brew It, after only a couple of visits, the staff began greeting me by name every time I walked through the door. It reminded me of Norm from Cheers—that easy ritual of belonging where the world pauses to say, you matter here. The drinks were good, the people were kind, but it was that simple recognition, that moment of being known, that made the coffee shop feel like family. The North Star Bar carried the same magic in its own way. Whenever I walked in, they’d call out, “Georgia,” not just as a nickname but as a nod to where I came from. It was playful, affectionate, and grounding. No matter how far I was from home, I carried a piece of it in the way they saw me. Both places remind me that what makes a space sacred isn’t the bricks or beams—it’s the people who look at you, smile, and say, you belong.”

“Seriously the best in the UP. The variety is amazing and so is the taste. Out of town guests are treated to these every time. And they always love them. Prices are reasonable, especially considering how much food is costing nowadays. High recommended. Very niiice”

They have the best sausage boats, made with their very own BrewyLouie sausage and homemade sauce. Listening to the friendly banter during a game of Smear will certainly have you laughing. You might even learn a Louieism or two. If your looking for great drinks, awesome music and lots of laughs, Mister Moms is the place for you!”

Having food allergies sucks and having someone put a lot of care into the food they make for me despite restrictions is really awesome. Hats off to him and the rest of this subway. It’s always clean, well stocked, and efficient. Love having this store as part of our little town of Norway! Thanks Laura and the whole team for the hard work!”
