Dottie's Hometown Cafe is a little gem in the heart of Grand Rapids with a nice up north woodsy theme, all wood tables and chairs, and a small area for counter service. It has a cute, lodgey feel and an inviting homey atmosphere. The restaurant is very clean and appears to be popular with locals. Free parking is available behind the restaurant with a rear entrance. The service is outstanding, quick, and efficient, with a delightful server who keeps water and coffee refilled without asking. The food is super good and not overpriced. Menu highlights include omelets that are really good size, fluffy pancakes with hot syrup, eggs Benedict, a patty melt that arrives hot and delicious, and a cinnamon roll definitely worth it with enough cinnamon. The biscuits and gravy and country fried steak are also recommended. Plates are warmed to keep food hot. Note that the establishment only accepts cash or checks, but an ATM is available on site.
