“Went there for Townie Tuesday. Every week a different cause is supported from purchases of pints, crowlers and growlers. This week it was the Stillwater Public Library. Head over there Tuesdays to support local no-profits. Beer was great as always and had an enjoyable chat with the barkeep.“

“Were there last Saturday night with friends for dinner and the festivities outside. Had a great time and very impressed with the service. Some of our party were very late (got lost), but the server and host both were very accommodating. It's been years since we've been there from out-of-state, but thought both the food and event were great. Only small criticism, get a band that plays mostly German songs - don't need to hear oldies from this country at German event (e.g. Neil Diamond?).“

“Great food, great service, great staff. We had the fungi burger, tavern burger, pomme frites, dipping sauces(they have a lot), and French onion soup. Everything was perfectly cooked, hot, juicy, crispy, and delicious. Our server was Kendall and she was well informed on the specials and the menu, she was polite and friendly and remembered our orders and asked the right questions. All around impressive.“

“I want to give a big shout out to the entire staff at hotel Crosby! I should have paid attention to specific names, but the following characterizes my experience While on business last week:
Fast and friendly check-in experience
Outstanding bar service, had cocktails, and dinner at the bar, my first night, and had a nightcap in the bar the second night. Bartenders both times were super knowledgeable, friendly, and made me feel right at home! Food was also excellent!
However, the ultimate reason for this review is the email I received the night I checked out. I left a gold chain with charm of high sentimental value in the room by mistake, and didn’t realize I had left it behind. I’m sure once I realized in the next week or so, I would’ve been kicking myself to remember where I left it! The email informed me I left it in the room and wanted me to please call them so I can get it back. I called them immediately, and they sent it via UPS to my home. I’m so thankful for the Integrity of the housekeeping staff, as I did the same thing almost 40 years ago at a hotel in Virginia Beach, let’s just say it disappeared without a trace!
Thank you, hotel Crosby, I will be a repeat Guest the next time I’m in town on business!“

“The "Kiss of the Geisha" sushi roll was some of the best sushi that I have ever had. We asked for a recommendation from the friendly server, and that roll hit the spot! Spicy, crunchy, and the fish and crab were excellent quality. Good portion of Wasabi on the side. The saki options offered were great as well. Sitting at the sushi bar is a fun and entertaining experience. Great sushi chefs and great servers.“

“They do a good job when they get the order correct. I have to order a create your own and pay more for my pizzas to get them made correctly. If I order a standard pizza and modify it they always mess it up. So I pay the $3-$4 more per pizza to get them correct.“

“When my mom brought me to the Freight House I was pleasantly surprised! With the great view and delicious food, this is an amazing place to eat.
The Freight House has a wonderful variety of food to eat! They offer street tacos, mushroom swiss burgers, walleye sandwiches, chicken chop salads, and more. You can get a giant pretzel for an appetizer, you can also get cheese curds, pulled chicken nachos, and artichoke dip! The Freight House also has a wide selection of drinks, they have lemonades, slushies, and drinks inside of pineapples!
My absolute favorite thing to get at the Freight House is the walleye sandwich! The walleye is cooked perfectly, and it tastes so fresh. Their homemade tartar sauce brings the perfect amount of tanginess to my dish. The long warm bun is soft, and doesn’t fall apart with every bite. They added a lemon on the side, and I chose to squeeze it over my sandwich, and my lemonade. The lemon brings the sandwich to a whole new level of tastyness! The walleye is always cooked to perfection, you can taste freshness in all of the ingredients, The freight really does have the best walleye sandwich!
The Freight House’s history dates back to the 1800s. It all started when Stillwater became a trade center for miners, trappers, and people who build railroads. Eventually, people decided that Stillwater needed a freight depot. So the people started to build the depot. It had two foot thick limestone walls, 30 foot tall exterior walls, and flooring was put in place. Finally, the strong trusses were installed, along with a solid slate roof. The construction was finally finished in 1883. The depot had a telephone office, and received about 75 railcars each day. After a few years of that Curtis feed, and coal farm service operated at the “freight House.” In 1970 the agency shut down, and the building was sold. Then, in 1979 the historical significance of the building was recognized, and it became the first building to be put on the national registry of historic places. It still stands today as the original building, as the freight House restaurant!
What I love about The Freight House is the diversity of the menu, the amazing tasting food, the rich history of the building, and the outdoor seating. The atmosphere of the building Is awesome. I really enjoy the outdoor seating, because I get to stare out at the St. Croix River. All of the workers are really kind, and the chefs bring out the food fast. I think that the taste, the freshness, atmosphere, the staff, and the rich history make the Freight House one of the best restaurants.“
