Cozy spot that deserves the recognition of being a delicious well thought out small menu. I have yet to have something I haven’t enjoyed. The charred cabbage, meatloaf sandwich, Dutch baby, and the orange stick buns have been my repeat favorites.
Super cute little hide away! Everything was amazing! Had the Egg sandwich and Coffee and it hit the spot! Thank you so much!

Dear Donna is a cozy and welcoming restaurant located in Columbus Park, occupying the space formerly known as Happy Gillis. Owned by Johnny and Helen Jo Leach, both James Beard Award semi-finalists, the restaurant reflects their passion for good food, warmth, and community. Named after a real-life “Dear Donna,” the place exudes a sense of family and belonging, making guests feel appreciated and cared for from the moment they arrive.
The menu is small but thoughtfully curated, offering consistently delicious dishes that have earned high praise. Favorites include the Dutch baby, roasted salmon, bone-in pork chop, and the meatloaf sandwich. Guests often enjoy the charred cabbage, orange stick buns, and the breakfast sandwich, which can be enhanced with bacon. The Bloody Mary is also noted as one of the best in the city—rich and flavorful. Although some find it a bit pricey, many agree that the quality and atmosphere make it worth every penny.
Dear Donna retains a charming diner feel with warm interior decor and friendly service, creating a space where strangers become friends. It’s a perfect spot for brunch, with a lively, celebratory vibe that encourages camaraderie. The chefs and staff are attentive and welcoming, often sharing special treats like Helen Jo’s birthday cake. Whether for brunch or dinner, the restaurant offers a memorable experience filled with great food, good vibes, and a sense of community that makes it stand out as a beloved local spot.
