It's a cruel fate to fall in love with beignets in Kansas City. The beignets at Southern Kitchen are correctly layered and very tasty. We got the sampler platter and the gumbo and corn chowder were my favorite. The corn bread is sweet, as all cornbread should be. The unfortunate news as that the proprietors are giving up the gumbo. I drove by the sign saying they were open for quite some time but one day I just wanted a beignet and they had them. I got their grilled fish and I was hooked. I love the seasoning and it calls me back all the time. I haven't been in awhile as we aren't going out for lunch as much due to the economy, but I really miss the fish. Great food, nice and clean seating area and super nice staff whom I'm guessing are all somehow owners or something bc they are really extra great. Been here a couple of times and each time someone from in the kitchen has come out to ask how the food was, etc.Kid-friendliness: Great for kids!
