Literally the worst bar in Asheville for customer service, the bartenders are beyond rude and all have poor attitudes. This has been the case for me on numerous occasions not just once. It’s unfortunate because the bar itself is a cool spot. 10/10 do not recommend!!

Solid hot dogs, & good veggie dog options. A little dirty, a little dingy, but some fun can be had (if you’re drunk enough). A pool table takes up half of a “dance floor,” & a DJ frequently helps the energy. Some booth, table, & bar seating, as well as a fairly squalid outdoor area one could call a patio. Cocktails are overpriced for the atmosphere, & a members-only policy can make getting in a slight hassle. Half the time, one of the washrooms is out of service, & the working one doesn’t have a locking door. If you want a late-night bite, & you’ve had a few drinks, give it a go. But be prepared to get sticky. Despite whatever you may be told by the staff, the place is not extremely Transgender-friendly, due in large to the crowd/regulars (I’ve given them four tries, never felt welcome, & sometimes unsafe). Overall, you can likely find somewhere else to get a late-night snack, & you can definitely find a better spot to drink or dance. Banks Ave Bar, Scandals, & all of South Slope are not far off. Despite it having been a spot to drag visiting friends when we need a bite before heading home, I won’t be returning for a fifth visit.

Cool "hole in the wall" bar. Nice vibes, enjoyed it all overall. They did an EDM night, and it was a blast! Very good hot dogs, too!

One of the best bars in Asheville. Always a good time, killer hot dogs, fair drink prices. Big fan!

Great little spot with good people and good atmosphere.

I love this place...always down to earth and chill. They do have a couple really good cocktails and a bunch of fancy hot dog creations. Also...very likely spot for running into cute dogs ;).

It's a dive bar through and through. Have to get a membership? To get in, but it's free. Bouncer takes a photo of your ID which I'd never seen before. It's pretty dirty but the vibe is good. Known for its hot dogs.

Terrible service! The blonde lady up front checking us in, was rude from the start. The drinks were terrible, and they were saying mean and nasty things to us, throughout us playing pool, to the bathrooms being disgusting. And we were the only ones in there. Which must show how bad business was while we were in there, or on any other day. Do not ever go here unless you want terrible service. I called to complain and both the manager, and the owner, claimed that they are allowed to treat their patrons and customers however they want, and they believe the staff over any customer or patrons complaint. Neither the manager or the owner even apologized for the terrible experience, and treatment that we received. Even when we were tipping 20% in the hopes that they would give us bettter service, and drop the attitude. I would not recommend ever going here. Terrible experience. Managers and owner also were very rude, and clearly do not care about how they, or their staff treat their customers and patrons. If I could give negative zero stars I would.

I was in Asheville for work on a Friday night and was told that the Barksdale was a cool local bar with a friendly atmosphere.I was not greeted with the kind energy that one would have expected. I’ve worked in Asheville for many years and this bar left a bad taste in my mouth. Most of this stemmed from the condescending tone that the greeter took with me as he explained that “we are a private bar for members only.” I’m a member of several bars in Asheville, and I understand why they have to charge a membership fee. What I don’t understand is how you can have a bar with 12 patrons in it and tell a potential customer that “we don’t accept new members on the weekend, and we have 1 set of rules for everyone.”I love the micro aggression!

There was a guy at the door who told us on a Saturday night- even though we were with a member- to come back later. I said, “well we can’t come back later. We’re here now to get hot dogs.” He said to come back Monday-Wednesday. He said he wanted “to make sure everyone would fit in.” He said “it is a bar first” as he blew smoke around us. He was rude and none of us understood why we couldn’t come in to this establishment. We won’t be coming back.
