My husband wanted to try Fried Soft Shell Crab and while we were in Beaufort NC we saw that Blackbeard’s had it on the menu. He ordered the build your own combo with the shrimp. He thought it was phenomenal and said the shrimp was the best he has had. I tried a cup of the Chowder and the Bisque. Both were really good but the chowder was my favorite. Carol our waitress was amazing, we were asking her about the soft shell crab and she gave us some history on the place. ...read full review

Blackbeard's Grill and Steam Bar is a popular local seafood spot known for its excellent food and lively atmosphere. The service is attentive and friendly, even with new staff. The steamed shrimp is a standout dish, often served with fresh sweet corn, and many customers enjoy the blackened shrimp with dirty rice and crab cake with aioli over dirty rice. The restaurant offers a variety of non-seafood options, such as chopped steak with onion gravy, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Visitors often praise the seafood bisque soup, calling it the best they've ever had, and some wish the shrimp were served on top of a bowl of rice. The outside doesn't look like much, but the inside is beautiful and full of beachy Blackbeard decor, creating a fun and lively vibe. There is a large room in the back with more seating, and reservations are recommended, especially since the restaurant tends to be busy. Parking can be tight, but there is a nearby lot for the seafood market next door. Recent reviews highlight the amazing food and friendly service, with some mentioning fresh tile fish, fried oysters, seared tuna steak, and homemade salad dressings. Appetizers like hush puppies and fried green tomatoes with spicy remoulade sauce are very popular, and the Earl Grey crème brûlée is highly recommended. The atmosphere is casual and old school, perfect for those who enjoy a relaxed dining experience. Overall, Blackbeard's is a lively place where many enjoy trying different dishes and experiencing friendly service.
