Retaj Restaurant and Cafe is a true cultural experience offering authentic Yemeni food. The smoothies look like they belong in a michelin star restaurant. The lamb fell straight off the bone, and everything was HOT and fresh from the kitchen. This gem is hidden in a random strip mall in Charlotte, and visitors will not be disappointed. There’s also a really cool hookah lounge attached where guests can sit and chill after getting completely stuffed with food. The server was awesome, and the owner constantly checks on everyone.

Ambiance is relative to visitors. The food is a delicacy, and the appearance did not reflect on the quality. The smoking area seemed low and cheap, but welcoming attitude and hospitality overcame. Sandwiches are affordable and so tasty. Haneez lamb with Yemen rice was out of the world. The outer appearance did not seem very fancy or attractive, but the inside varies a lot. Soccer matches were played live for free.

The Mandi was absolutely delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. The service was excellent, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Everything was clean and well organized. The Haneeth Mandi Lamb is an absolute must-try — incredibly juicy and full of flavour. The chicken shawarma, however, was just average. The espresso had a burned taste, but the mint tea was great. The wraps were good (Sharma and kafta kebab). The food is always fresh and flavorful, and the hospitality truly stands out. The staff are consistently welcoming, kind, and make you feel at home.
