“I visited The Flying Biscuit Labor Day weekend which alines with the Matthew's Alive Festival. I was fully prepared to wait for a table and have an extended wait for our food and beverages given the festival bringing thousands of people to the area but that was not the case. We were seated immediately (the hostess were great and very accommodating!) on the outdoor patio with a great view of downtown Matthews. Stacey, our waitress, was great! She was kind, funny, and never rushed us. Our drinks were delicious and food was great. Pricing was comparable to other breakfast spots and the option for a togo coffee was the cherry on top to a fantastic breakfast.

My party consisted of 3 adults and one baby. The high chair that was provided fit the baby well and was clean.“

“Sharon and Susan were both incredibly welcoming and kind! For my meal, I opted for the chicken chorizo hash with eggs over easy, accompanied by potatoes, peppers, onions, and cheese. I thought the dish could have been enhanced with some queso since it felt a bit dry (might have been because I left the salsa off). Although they offer the hangover hash, it doesn't include a biscuit. The biscuit 👌🏼 and the jelly they serve is truly exceptional. I also had the grits, which were definitely creamy and pretty good—probably some of the best grits I've had at a restaurant for sure. I decided to try the grilled macaroni and cheese, which was a baked and grilled version. While it was tasty, I believe it could have been more flavorful, but it was still enjoyable. My main issue was that the food on my breakfast plate wasn't warm enough; I prefer to see steam rising from my food. Despite that, everyone was very pleasant, and the menu is quite impressive. My only suggestion would be to ensure that the food is served hot and to pay attention to any lint on the plates from the drying process. Overall, it's a nice, straightforward breakfast spot with a unique menu.

“I ordered the fried chicken dinner with the bulgogi sauce, served with mac & cheese, a deviled egg, and a biscuit—and let me tell you, the fried chicken was chef’s kiss. Tender, flavorful, and somehow still crispy the next day after I packed it to go. The mac & cheese was a little underwhelming for me—creamy but could’ve used a bit more soul or seasoning. That said, the deviled egg was the perfect Southern touch, and the biscuit was warm, fluffy, and comforting.

The place itself feels like a cozy blend of your grandma’s kitchen and a cool, slightly gritty charm that fits right into the Midwood vibe. Heads-up: there’s a 3% credit card charge, which feels a little unnecessary these days, but aside from that, the food hit the spot and the service was fast and friendly. “A night to remember at The McNinch House 🌹✨ Growing up, my Dad wasn’t just an industrial engineer—he was a hobby chef with serious skills. He spent his childhood in restaurants, and at home, he brought that magic to our table. I didn’t grow up eating “normal kid food,” and to this day, he’s the best cook I know. My love for food? 100% from him. The McNinch House has been on my list for over a decade—and let me tell you, it was worth the wait. Executive Chef Eric O’Connor, who joined just a year ago, blew us away. We had the 4-course tasting menu (I truly don’t know how people survive the 5-course!), and every dish was a standout: *Corn & Clam Chowder – the cream is everything *Bone Marrow – best I’ve ever had *Lamb Lollipops (my husbands) – best I’ve ever had; perfectly cooked *Pork Wellington (my husbands) – the basil took it over the top *Snapper Succotash – the bacon made it *Crème Brûlée – perfectly done From the surprise oyster starter (cool presentation served in a shell over ice) to the palate-cleansing sorbet between courses, every detail was thoughtful and special. Chef Eric personally served our entrée—how cool is that? The service was impeccable, with a main server and 2-3 others helping throughout. At the end, they even handed me a freshly picked rose from their garden. 💐 We dined in a historic 1800s home filled with charm, and afterward strolled through the garden—flowers everywhere, twinkle lights, fountains, and the Charlotte skyline in view. I had to ask for the chef’s autograph and a photo—he’s just that good. We told him he deserves a star, and he smiled and said, “We’re on the list.” So now I’m shouting from the rooftops: let’s help make that Michelin star happen! He absolutely deserves it. Thank you, Chef Eric and the entire McNinch House team, for one of the most enchanting, romantic, and memorable meals I’ve ever had in Charlotte. “Fried Chicken is the best we’ve had since moving here 17 years ago, Mac& Cheese was creamy and delicious, Sweet Potato Tots dusted with Cinnamon and Sugar were yummy and the Jalapeño Cornbread was sweet and moist with just the right amount of peppers, service was good and our sweet tea was kept filled. Absolutely no complaints, highly recommend and look forward to our next visit!“
