Alex made sure the plates were removed from the table when done and we didn’t run out of drinks and provided the attention to us that was needed. They both really made our lunch even more special with their service. Their kindness and hospitality didn’t go unnoticed.“

“I really like this place. I will come to this restaurant whenever I am in Matthews. The service was supreme - I got a Bisquit to go with Apple Butter. I didn't have to ask for the Apple Butter! Both the Bisquit and Apple butter were delicious. The Apple butter had a nice smooth tangy and spicy taste like they made it themselves. and they made sure I was taken care of quickly.“

“We came to New South Kitchen & Bar for a staff meeting lunch with our newly formed team, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The food was great...Southern comfort done right, and the service was top notch. You could tell the sweet tea was made with love, and the biscuits for the table were warm, buttery, and perfectly complemented by the blackberry jam our server thoughtfully brought out. That little touch made a big impression.

“Sharon and Susan were both incredibly welcoming and kind! For my meal, I opted for the chicken chorizo hash with eggs over easy, accompanied by potatoes, peppers, onions, and cheese. I thought the dish could have been enhanced with some queso since it felt a bit dry (might have been because I left the salsa off). Although they offer the hangover hash, it doesn't include a biscuit. The biscuit 👌🏼 and the jelly they serve is truly exceptional. I also had the grits, which were definitely creamy and pretty good—probably some of the best grits I've had at a restaurant for sure. I decided to try the grilled macaroni and cheese, which was a baked and grilled version. While it was tasty, I believe it could have been more flavorful, but it was still enjoyable. My main issue was that the food on my breakfast plate wasn't warm enough; I prefer to see steam rising from my food. Despite that, everyone was very pleasant, and the menu is quite impressive. My only suggestion would be to ensure that the food is served hot and to pay attention to any lint on the plates from the drying process. Overall, it's a nice, straightforward breakfast spot with a unique menu.

Tender, flavorful, and somehow still crispy the next day after I packed it to go. The mac & cheese was a little underwhelming for me—creamy but could’ve used a bit more soul or seasoning. That said, the deviled egg was the perfect Southern touch, and the biscuit was warm, fluffy, and comforting.

The place itself feels like a cozy blend of your grandma’s kitchen and a cool, slightly gritty charm that fits right into the Midwood vibe. Heads-up: there’s a 3% credit card charge, which feels a little unnecessary these days, but aside from that, the food hit the spot and the service was fast and friendly. “Fried Chicken is the best we’ve had since moving here 17 years ago, Mac& Cheese was creamy and delicious, Sweet Potato Tots dusted with Cinnamon and Sugar were yummy and the Jalapeño Cornbread was sweet and moist with just the right amount of peppers, service was good and our sweet tea was kept filled. Absolutely no complaints, highly recommend and look forward to our next visit!“

“This pub food restaurant is located off the lobby of the Fairfield Inn. We initially planned to dine out but decided to try the Tavern instead.

They mainly serve bar food, and it's well-prepared. I wish they had more vegan options.
