“I came in today for a quick lunch with a friend. He said the food was good here, and I believe that's a true statement. We were waited on by Juana, who was very nice and was always around. The inside is basic, but it's a home, small-town place that feels right. I ordered a chef salad and a side onion rings. The chef salad was ok. They have an in-house made bleu cheese dressing that is a bit different, kind of sweet, slightly pink. It's not bad, but I prefer regular bleu cheese dressing with the chunks. The salad was okay, kind average. The onion rings were great. Obviously frozen, they taste like onion rings from a chain burger and ice cream place that I visited recently, and they may be from the same source. I'd come back for sure.“
“I came back to the Derby for dinner. This time it was my family and another family. Four kids and four adults. We got there around 6pm on a Friday and it was not packed. It did get a lot more busy between 6 and 7:30. The takeout counter was bustling. Just like last time, we were waited on by Suzie, which is great. She is a real trip and a hard worker. The inside is about that you'd expect. It's an old school restaurant, but it's clean and has decent food and good service. I don't have pictures this time, but there were a number of things that we ate. I went for a more southern type dinner, the Friday special. Country style steak with brown gravy, fried okra, pickled beets, and hush puppies. To be honest, the beets and okra stuff is canned or frozen and are about what you'd expect. The hush puppies are very good, nice and crispy. The country steak was fine, just needed some salt. Other things my family ate, plain cheeseburger and fries, chicken tenders and fries, and the Friday all you can eat flounder. I did try the flounder and it was pretty good. This place is worth trying, just know what to expect“
“Was freezing inside. Guess they keeping temperature down to help kitchen staff or for whenever the temp reaches 80° today. But it was freezing inside at 1pm. Food and service was good. Looked like only one waitress, but she was working it!“
“A fantastic breakfast on Easter. You can never go wrong with country ham, eggs, and coffee. The service is what really stood out to me here. Respectful, charming, and attentive. My coffee was never empty and they never hesitated to ask if we needed anything else. Definitely coming back next time I'm in the area.“
“This is the SPOT! If you’re in southern Mt Airy, Holly Springs, or Pilot Mtn, I highly recommend making the drive up to see Laura and the sassy ladies up here. ALL the food here is good! There’s even a small, yet efficient salad bar. After you have a good meal, Mrs Wilma’s desserts are out of this world! Hard to eat here and not get some delicious desserts. If you can’t decide between pie or cake…get both! ????“
