My favorites are the hamburger steak & gravy, fried chicken,ham, squash casserole, potato salad, coleslaw, hush puppies and the 7 layer salad. “This popular stop on HWY 111 has a long history dating back to the prohibition era. In my younger days, any visit would include an agonizing defeat to my Uncle Tank in checkers. King me! However, the new business owners have made a noticeable upgrade: a full state of the art stainless steel kitchen. For me that means more eggs and sausage and a quick visit with Jerry Stroud himself. Of course you got gas, hardware, and cold drinks which makes it the most important last stop before heading to your cottage at the beach. Inquire for catering.“

“I’m not a huge fan of cheese on burgers but the pictures looked so good I tried one and it was great. Everything served hot and fast. Service is great. We had burgers and fries inside and apple turnovers to go.Kid-friendliness: Wholesome atmosphere with fresh food.“

“An absolutely great stop if you are craving seafood. My grandson and I enjoy it every time we go. Always fresh and honestly one of the best baked potatoes around. Everything is pretty much fried with the same seasoning and that is why I didn't give it a 5 star for the food. Service is great and the sides are excellent and seasoned well. If you like challenge foods the oyster bar connected to the building has a hot oyster challenge called "The Rooster," I personally have 3 shirts for completing the challenge. You can order it in the Sandpiper and they will bring it to you. No need to go to the bar to make bad decisions.“

“We have been driving through LA for years heading to Morehead City and have only recently stopped in. I'm bummed we haven't been coming longer! First things first, the salad bar is incredibly fresh. That is usually my meal. We love that they have a full bar and we have always had great service. Their consistent hours, M-Sa, 11-9, is a real plus. Absolutely worth the two-minute detour off Highway 70!“

“Great meal today. Starting with the guy who took our order was friendly & helpful. We all ordered something different. The salad bar was very fresh & had a large selection of items & blue Cheese ❤️. Awesome chicken & livers & basically an abundance of fresh, hot, well cooked, tasty food. It totally enjoyed my meal & the servers who worked as a team.
