“Top Dog is a well established, almost historical landmark that is just off of highway 74 on Oakland Rd. The owner, Jim Owens is well known in the area and very respected by most people. The place is not a immaculate yet the food is great. Mr Owens is a friendly person and often has visitors come in from various parts of the country. Yes there have been people coming in from other states and have come back when they came back through the area. He has the usual items in a restaurant hot dogs hamburgers cheeseburgers fries it also has beef dogs fish sandwiches and chicken and barbecue it also has fountain drinks such as Pepsi, mountain dew. Jim is also a published writer. It is race friendly as well as LGBT friendly it is also family friendly. Do not expect the crowd but do expect very good dining. “I hadn’t stopped here because I just didn’t know. Now I do! It’s fantastic! I used to stop years ago but when it changed hands, I didn’t stop. What was I thinking?! The service is super friendly. The food selection is very appropriate for the area, and it was excellent. The prices are right in line with other neighboring restaurants. Please make a point of stopping for lunch. They are only open till 3:00. You won’t regret it. AND they serve beer!! A win-win!”

“This place was packed but for good reason! I went here with a group to do some pie tastings for my upcoming wedding and they were great at accommodating for my group. They have a blueberry sour cream pie and it was odd sounding at first but you eat it and DELICIOUS!! “Finally tried Mario's, and I'm upset with myself for waiting so long. Having spent quite a bit of time in the Mediterranean with the Navy, it's refreshing to get the "farmhouse" experience again! Mario's is a super typical, ambiance neglected family style restaurant that you find everywhere in Southern Italy. The owners, despite the length of time spent in the US, run it just like they would back in the old country. Almost no staff, 70's and 80's decor, random music you can barely hear playing from decades old speakers...and the most authentic tasting Italian food I've had in a very long time. Everything about Mario's is utterly perfect for what it is. If you know, you know. And it is blessing they are located in Forest City NC. The lack of a broader customer base is allowing them to continue running the restaurant the way they want to, rather than watering it down to appease sheer masses. If you are in the mood for your Italian Grandma to complain you are looking too thin and to "Eat! Eat!" as she gives you two people's worth of food on a single plate...Mario's is your place!”

I tried grilled salmon for my 1st time tonight(dietary restrictions due to hypertension), it was ok, I don't have any comparison it was my 1st. But I've had several other dishes and my wife's 2 way combo with fried scallops and shrimp was great, I cheated and had 2 of the scallops, they were out the back door off the chain! My go to "fish camp" nowadays!Parking: Get there early or come late, if the restaurant is full so is the parking lot but there's a bank and other business right next door where parking is available. “Burgers are thick and juicy, fresh toppings. The chicken wrap is perfect. The wrap is not too thick. The chicken is seasoned, not over seasoned like most places and cooked just right. The fries are fresh not frozen and the onions rings are the good ones. Pepsi is on tap!”

I did order food at 8:10 p.m. ( They close @ 9 ) by phone & was told they were busy ( which I appreciated that they communicated that information. ) When I arrived to get my food, I did have to wait.
