“My first time ever visiting California Shakes and Juice Bar, and it was a nice experience. I decided on the Orange Julius protein shake, and it easily met my expectations through nostalgia from when I used to visit the original Orange Julius kiosks in the malls I frequented growing up. It was smooth, subtle and not too sweet.

The primary reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the price! However, I should say that I have been living abroad recently, so sticker shock in the US has been real compared to what I have become used to.“

“Natural Valley Smoothie and Juices offers delicious, fresh juices. I love their Fak Fak Hina bowl with ice cream on top—it's the best! They also have breakfast items like coffee and bagels, which I haven't tried yet but I'm sure are good. I wish they were open longer. They have a punch card system: after 10 purchases, you get a free item, and they display completed cards on the wall, which is cute. They offer Nutella ice cream smoothies, açaí bowls, and more—a healthy one-stop shop. Absolutely love that it's so close to me.“

“I’ve walked by this spot so many times, and it seemed every time I was hungry they were closed (closed on weekends) but today I finally stepped in. I ordered 2 bánh mìs and a Vietnamese coffee. Pete, the owner/operator of the spot was the only one there and we instantly jumped into great conversation about the music scene in Philly back in the late 90s. We ended up knowing a lot of the same people. Philly is a tight knit group. So even before eating the food I was already a fan of this spot. Pete served me his special take on Vietnamese coffee while we talked and he made the sandwiches. The iced coffee was excellent, but different and less sweet than Vietnamese coffee I’ve had in the past. He also used ice cubes made of coffee which was an added bonus for a coffee junkie like myself. After we talked for nearly 20 min, I walked home with my sandwich and WOW! Such a solid bánh mì! I told him to make it like he would make it for himself (spicy) and he knocked it out of the park. I’ll be back and I’ll be bringing all my music friends here when they are in the neighborhood. I highly encourage Olde City residents as well as Philly locals to give this place a try!“

She answered every question and responded to my emails promptly. I ordered the NEW YOU 1-day cleanse and the LOVE BUNDLE. Each juice was fresh and delicious! This was my first cleanse in over a year and much needed after months of poor eating choices. I breezed through the 1-day cleanse because they all were so tasty and actually kept me very full. I can say something I loved about each juice, but the KICK of the spicy Lemonade is YUMMY! And Cashew Lover is to die for! Felt like I was indulging in a vanilla milkshake!

“Me and My lady went here on a whim. I mean literally Caraba’s next door had over an hour wait and this place caught my eye. It was something different outside of our norm. So we went, the experience was amazing. The service was top notch, actually some of the best customer service I ever had. She was quick, on top of things and had no problem explaining anything we wanted to know about the large variety of stuff they have on the menu and us never going there before. “I eat here a lot and love it! The food is delicious, all organic, wholegrain and 95% vegan. And…it’s super cheap. And their containers and plastic wear are all compostable. If you are lucky you might be in time to get an excellent $.99 muffin. They make juices, always have 1 or 2 soups, a daily special as well as a veggie burger, tacos, and totally customizable bowls and salads. They sell kombucha by the ounce-bring in your growler. The service is usually very fast and the upstairs dining area gives a great view of shoppers. Plus there is free wifi and outlets to charge up. My favorite is the jammed yam.“

The bowls are enjoyable, and the fresh juices are equally good. As with most Playa locations, prices range from $13 to $15 per bowl. It's a great spot for a morning pick-me-up.“
