“My wife and I are on the #eatjersey challenge to visit & have a meal in all 564 towns of NJ. We chose Mis Amigos for Dunellen, our 118th town.
We came for breakfast before a Rutgers football game on a Saturday morning. We had Huevos con Chorizo & Carne Asada con Huevos. Both were excellent with plenty of flavor. The agua de pina was a refreshing to the food. The restaurant was well decorated with lots of color and Mexican artwork.
If you're in the area and looking for a good Mexican breakfast, check out Mis Amigos!“

“One of my favorite places to get food. Foods always sooooo good and the people are so nice, even when I'm being a little annoying with my 13 people orders (I always get help when I have like 4 bags of foods). As a Muslim it is really hard to find good halal places that won't cost an arm and a leg, and this is is really affordable for the amount of food you are getting. I hope this place never closes. 10/10 would recommend“

“We LOVE Jalapeno and Cilantro! Since they first opened, they have been absolutely wonderful and we have seen no drop-off in any aspect, even as they have become increasingly busier and well-known in the local area.
Service: the staff here are so friendly and accommodating. They check in on your table at just the right cadence throughout your meal service and have always made sure to manage the allergens or dietary needs of our table.
Food: The food options are great! They have some traditional diner staples (pancakes, waffles, french toast, egg platter combos, etc.) along with some great Latin American offerings (enchiladas, burritos, etc.). The portioning is awesome - I never leave feeling hungry and we usually bring home leftovers. The value on the pricing is also incredibly favorable for customers. The standouts from our past dining experiences are the french toast, the hola combo, the breakfast burrito, and their tostadas.
Atmosphere: We love how joyful the atmosphere is every time we come! They regularly decorate for every occasion and holiday and keep the space clean and tidy. The amount of seating is modest so it can get crowded quickly during busier meal times but they turn the tables over in a reasonable amount of time.
Jalapeno and Cilantro is one of the few restaurants that I repeatedly recommend to others without hesitation. I have the utmost confidence that anyone I send there would have a good experience and even better food.“

“Creepy Uncle Dave here. Today I went to the Tex Mex Deli in Edison. The food was amazing! I tried a burrito that was out of this world. Apparently this was a new entry to their already sprawling menu. My boss once told me that if I never step out of my comfort zone and try something new I will never taste success. At the time I was pretty sure the only success I was going to taste was the sweat from my forehead seeing as he wanted me to dig a 200 foot trench by hand. Anyway, this was a shredded chicken burrito stuffed to the hilt with chicken, rice and beans, then smothered with MOLE, MOLE, MOLE sauce. Sorry, if you know you know. My coworker had the birria tacos that looked equally amazing. They must have been good seeing as he didn’t even offer a taste. This isn’t a white tablecloth establishment but the food definitely has potential. I’m sold! I’m definitely coming back and I think you should check this place out too. Tell them I sent ya!
-Creep Uncle Dave
Parking: Just park in the street.
Kid-friendliness: What kid don’t like tacos!“

“Went here for dinner tonight the first time. Food was absolutely amazing. Stephanie was our host/server and she was fantastic at recommendations. Food was delicious. Will definitely make this my new Spanish go to restaurant. The Salvadorian Chicken Tamale was moist and dense, and the flavors mixed perfectly together. If you order the beef empanadas, ask them for their new homemade hot sauce. It's a perfect blend of sweet & heat to go with the pastry dough. Their plantains were a good addition of sweet to the dense of the meal. Their flan was the perfect size for a nice ending dessert to a very filling meal. Definitely a highly recommended place to get an excellent and very affordable meal.“

“this place is UNREAL. I started coming here a few years ago when I started college over at Middlesex. I’ve since then transferred and graduated and still make the trip out there 2-3 times a month. This is my absolute favorite birria place. i’ve tried 5-6 other places and NONE are as good as this one. This birria has such a unique flavor and you can tell there’s a lot that goes into it. They focus a lot on it since it’s the main menu item. I always get the tacos. the horchata is also incredible and the churros are fantastic. Please NEVER CHANGE THE RECIPE! This is the only good birria spot around!
Dietary restrictions: they’re always happy to make something dairy free for my bf.“

“Tried New Brunswick location today for the first time after hearing raving reviews from my co-workers. I am very impressed! I got a burrito box w/ chorizo and added guac, Brussels sprouts & chipotle aioli. Oh my goodness. Delicious! Those brussels were way tasty. Then a bag of chips too. The chips had a hint of lime and lightly salted, so good. Better than chipotles. The bowl was huge; couldn’t finish which made for a great dinner. Can’t wait to come back and keep trying different meats!!“

“I wanted to leave a positive review, because now that the Baja Tacos are off the menu, I’m not sure I’ll be back ? Those were my absolute favorite, and pretty much the only thing I ordered every time! I really hope the best for this place, though, and that it continues to thrive! RIP Baja Tacos, you will be missed.“

“Recommend: tilapia tacos*, salsa verde, campenchanosGood: tamales, barbacoa tacosOk: chicken flautas, arabes tacos, lengua (tongue) tacos, tripa tacos*Probably would have been a 3 star rating if we didn't like the tilapia tacos so much. They were definitely the favorite. The fish was tender and nicely seasoned. The seasoning and cook on other things were a little hit or miss. Barbacoa had great taste but too salty, arabes were dry, lengua was disappointingly dry and bland. The salsa verde was used liberally to save many of the tacos. The flautas were nice and crispy but the chicken inside was dry.The tripe had some crunchy bits that some people might like but I found them tough. The campenchanos in the flour tortilla were also a bit salty but I liked how soft the tortilla was.The tamales had nice texture, but the cheese stick inside was strange for me.“

“This place really hit the spot. After building up an appetite at the nearby Great Swamp and Raptor Trust, I headed here for lunch on Labor Day with two of my chums. I was a little nervous because we showed up right around 2PM and Casa Maya's website indicated they closed for a bit at 2:30PM, but they let us in and got us a legit meal in time.
The parking situation is a bit awkward and took some navigating. The best comp I can give is the Flatiron Building in New York; the building is basically at the end of a narrow triangle (aka Meyersville and Hickory Tavern), so you have enough space for one or two cars to comfortably pull in on the side, but otherwise it's too close to the road and you end up jutting out into traffic. My chum had to park behind the restaurant and a few other buildings, but it could have been worse. Thankfully I spotted a sign nearby with additional parking instructions or we might have had to have gotten a little more creative in that regard.
The one major negative here is that it feels VERY cluttered and claustrophobic in the restaurant. I didn't see enough of the interior to confirm if they just built in too many tables/booths, but each dining area has a very high partition that makes it feel even smaller. It may just depend on your perspective - some might consider it cozy - but if I have to position my body at certain angles to comfortably navigate the restaurant and my booth, that's a problem for me.
I've stayed away from burritos for a while after experiencing some substandard ones in the Financial District, but I decided to make a comeback with the Tijuana Burrito, which featured marinated pork. I thought it was super tasty. I don't think this type of Mexican restaurant/food would ever be considered truly authentic ethnic cuisine - sort of the Sweet & Sour Chinese takeout equivalent, I suppose - but I'm a huge fan. For someone like me with a texture-based palate who doesn't typically like crunchy stuff in the middle of something soft, this was perfect - everything was saucy and ground down, if that makes sense. The pork was juicy and flavorful, and the sauces were great. It was a very decent portion that I probably only finished because of how many steps I'd accrued in the Swamp.
The service was very good, especially when you consider that they needed to get us our food well before the 2:30PM closure. The food was made to order and yet came out within minutes, allowing us to comfortably consume our entrees. They DID push us out a little after 2:30PM, but I really didn't have an issue with that - we were done with the food and they could have just not allowed new customers in by the time we came in (and we knew about the closure ahead of time). An understandable kick in the rump.
I'm rarely in this area but I'd absolutely come back, especially now that I understand the weird triangle parking lot situation.“

“The food was super delicious, they have a great variety of sauces. I had several questions about the sauces. A man named Domingo answered everything and explained that they are recipes made by him. He allowed me to try several and notice the difference between sauces. I recommend this place 5 stars ?“

“surprised to see the low ratings, the food is pretty good and ambiance is vibrant yet nice & low key. I’m afraid the people complaining about operating fees and mandatory tip don’t read the news about how difficult it has become to operate a restaurant business during these times - it’s either drive up the cost of the menu or add in a fee (either way you’re going to get an up charge because this is the state of the economy)“

“Seemed like they only spoke Spanish, but Idk. Prices were fair, portion size was just right, food was fantastic. Served chips with salsa verde. The salsa was spicy in the best way. I got pollo el chipotle. It was perfect. Also got pupusas. Definitely authentic food made very well. So far my favorite Mexican place in New Jersey.“

“This is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area! The food is delicious and very authentic. The ambiance and decorations make you feel like you are visiting Mexico. The staff are super friendly too. Overall a great experience.
Parking: When I come at off hours (11:00-3:00 PM) it's easy to find parking on the street. Probably not that easy during the evening rush.
Wheelchair accessibility: There's a door right off the street. There should be no problems.“

“The food in this place is really good, the tacos, burritos and homemade Mexican soups are outstanding. The place is a little dated and they have a very small parking lot. I must admit I do have one pet peeve with the beef soup. They put green beans in the soup. Not a fan of that. Other than that the service and people working there are very nice“

“Greatly priced food with amazing quality! I’ve been coming here for years and it never fails to make my taste buds happy. It’s hard to find an authentic Mexican restaurant with homemade ingredients/ food that tastes good and isn’t too expensive. They recently started selling cocktails and it makes the meal even more perfect. Best margarita I’ve ever had! The employees are all nice and the new owner Danny even went around and made sure everything was okay. Highly recommend for anyone who likes Spanish food. High quality food and service all around“

“A no frill restaurant. We weren’t sure if the server was fluent with English. The service was adequate. We had a burrito bowel, one verde con pollo (chicken w green sauce) tamale, one mole con pollo (chicken with mole) tamale, and a chicken tostada. For drinks we had jarrito mandarine and tamarind piña.The burrito was standard. The verde con pollo was delicious and the tostada was generous and tasty. The mole sauce was more bitter than sweet; it’s different from most places. The tamarind piña was good too.
Wheelchair accessibility: It’s a small place with upstairs, no good for wheelchairs“
