“Here’s the deal. Life isn’t perfect in the Dirty Jersey (i.e. Jersey City). At the VIP Diner it's gritty and down to earth. Please don’t expect a Michelin 5 star. That would kill the charm. Rather, expect homespun, caring, and conscientious service because you’ve sidestepped the bullsh*t. Satisfying fare, decent portions, and down to earth is the VIP, your place to sit down, get coffee, and decompress.“

“For starters, careful if you go on a weekend for lunch. The place was slammed and it took me 40 mins to get a cheesesteak. My fault, I should have ordered ahead. Be warned though, this is not a quick stop kind of place.

Staff was super friendly and helpful. I ordered the new school cheesesteak as is. The flavors were solid. You could taste all of the ingredients and the steak was high quality. I found the seeded bread to be a nice touch and it was soft with a good chew. The texture of the beef and cheese combo was not my favorite though. It was very one note, somewhere between mushy and chalky. It wasn’t bad. It was just different. I think it was the cooper cheese they use. The sandwich held up really well and wasn’t messy at all. But I think I missed the messiness and drippy-ness of a traditional Philly cheesesteak. But I get it. This is “new school”.

The interior is nothing to write home about, with a few 2-3 seater tables. Most people were taking their orders to go, as did I. Not many options for waiting around either, so just ended up waiting in my car.

Overall, a solid sandwich and at a decent price point. I want to go back to try the old school and the roast beef sandwich.“

Philadelphia Grill blew me away from the first bite. The steak was juicy, the cheese was perfectly melted, and the flavor was out of this world. Honestly? Better than Gino’s in Philly—by a long shot. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients and care about what they’re serving.

“AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING ! I live not too far from this place, me and the wife decided to order some early lunch. She got the New Yorker and enjoyed it and said it was an amazing BEC. I had the Spring Bling and boy, that thang was fire !!! We ordered tater tots too, AMAZING (hash browns met their match). I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this spot!! I love everything about this place, only drawback the inside could have more room for additional tables but the food, Serb ice and atmosphere- oh and prices- are spot on! I had onion rings with my cheesesteak they were good too! No parking lot but there was plenty of on-street parking and the guts that work there are super helpful and pleasant! I haven't tried most of their stuff yet, but based on their cheesesteaks, I can tell that the rest of the menu is an absolute hit. “Tony Boys is a sandwich lover’s dream! They have an insane selection of sandwiches — and as a vegetarian, I was so impressed by how many options there were for me. I went with friends, and the way we demolished our sandwiches says it all.

We tried the Eggplant Parm, the Angry Bird with eggplant, and the Lumpy with chicken — every single one was packed with flavor and seriously satisfying. My mouth is watering just thinking about it again. If you’re anywhere near this spot, do yourself a favor and go. You won’t regret it!“

“Been coming here for a while now and the food has been amazing. The fried chicken is one of the best I’ve had in all of the east coast. They also just got BBQ Ribs and Oxtails. And they are heavenly, and full of flavors. Feels like im in a Jamaican/fried chicken cuisine. Best of both worlds.“

“I have visited Charley’s Bayonne twice and both times I had a positive experience.

The first time I was there I dined-in. They have a huge dine in area with lots of tables. The order was ready within 10 minutes and my wife and I enjoyed our Philly cheesesteaks.

I downloaded their app and created an account which gave me a $5 credit for my next purchase so I ordered through the app and picked up. This time I ordered a Bacon Cheesesteak which was also tasty. As soon as I arrived (approximately 10 minutes after I had placed the order) the order was ready and properly packed with each cheesesteak in a separate box (much better than Subway’s packaging). I also ordered a side of cheese sauce but I do not recommend it. It was cold and tasteless, much different than Wendy’s cheese sauce.

Both times I visited were on a weekend early afternoon and both times the place was dead. I’m not sure if it gets busier later or during weekdays but I hope this business survives because I definitely recommend it.
