“We love Colonial Diner and have been going there for years. They have the best food and best staff, along with an amazing atmosphere. My three year old asks to go there for practically every meal and we are always greeted like family when we walk through the door. This is the best diner I’ve ever been to. Run -don’t walk- and get ANYTHING from the menu; you won’t regret it!“

“I liked the menu options a lot, a good variety of diner food w/ some French inspired dishes. Our waiter was funny and really nice lol. Place is kinda small, but we didn’t have to wait at all even though it’s a no res spot. They gave us a small ice cream and whipped cream dessert for new years 🥹 Overall, I had higher expectations for the food based on the price points so was a little disappointed

- French onion soup ($19): 7/10, I LOVE French onion soup, but the broth wasn’t as flavorful or onion-y as I would’ve liked. Was pretty excited about this but disappointed. It was filled to the brim, which is great in theory, but it was lowkey hard to start eating it without it spilling over
- Patty melt ($21): 8/20, pretty solid, but lowkey reminds me of the melt from Waffle House lol
- Fries: 7/10, standard
- Complimentary ice cream w/ whipped cream: 7/10, standard ice cream, but it was nice that it was free 🥹

“I didn’t expect a full blown broadway show experience in a restaurant! If you want show tunes and pop music served with a plate of great food then this is the place for you! Our server Brandi M. belted out a wicked version of The wizard and I! I ordered the BLT with avocado and waffle fries and my friend ordered the chicken and waffles. Both were delicious.“

“Just to start this review off, a word of advice...do not order pick up via Seamless from this diner. Every time I have done this, without exception, I have had to stand and wait as my order hasn't even been started yet - and I do arrive at designated pick up time. Interestingly if you order delivery it arrives in 15 mins:) That aside, this is hands down the best diner food I have encountered. It never fails to amaze me when I see the lines outside Gramercy Diner where the food is terrible when this place is so much better!! Highly recommended, with the atmosphere and decor of a classic diner should you choose to eat in rather than take away.“

“Had breakfast there twice. Once solo and the next time with my wife. Consecutive Tuesdays. Just there this morning, after the golf range at Chelsea Piers. It's a combination of Greek and Mexican specialties. I have sampled the eggs overeasy with corned beef and this time had three poached eggs with fresh tomato and feta, home fries and coffee. All wonderful. My wife had fried eggs with ham on top of grilled taco. She loved it. This is a top notch diner with excellent service.“

“Great breakfast. Plenty of options. I had corned beef hash and mu wife had chicken and waffles. Both were excellent. Bus of 43 came in right after we sat down and the staff handled it beautifully. Lots of famous photos on the wall..may have to see if they will hang mine up there...after all...they had a photo with a youtube dog on it.

I got the Reuben sandwich with fries, it was huge and had amazing flavor - the corned beef was tender, the cheese melty, rye bread was toasty, and the sauerkraut with Russian dressing made it perfect. Plus it was open face, a really unique touch, served with crunchy pickles, sauerkraut and yummy fries. A feast for sure! My family for sunny side eggs (perfectly cooked) with crispy bacon and pancakes. They were super happy, said it was delicious. The location is perfect for a meal near Newark airport. The service was great, food was served nice and hot, place was clean. And you get that cool New Jersey diner vibe with leather booths and cool bar seating. However, even with loads of gravy (they gave me a bowl full) and with a mild stuffing, I felt it was a little bland. Good for people on a low-salt diet? I needed to add a lot of pepper and some salt. I still would have liked a more savory taste. Nevertheless, the portion was big and the "side salad" was more like a mini salad entree. Take a look at the pictures. Wait staff was very nice. Lots of people there on a Sunday morning, so you may have to wait. Price is slightly high, but then everything is compared to a few years ago. BUT I'd rather pay more for this kind of quality. I will go back when I am in the area again.“

We are so consumed by how many 5 star reviews somewhere got, or if it’s been sprinkled with magic influencer dust that I think we’ve forgotten to appreciate things for exactly who and what they are. The Cosmic Diner is EVERYTHING. The food is exactly what you would expect it to be, which is greasy and no frills and served with diner coffee and creamer in the little rip off containers - the delightful opposite of artisanal. The waiters are gruff. The food comes out in 6 minutes. The owner is there greeting everyone who walks in the door. This place has REGULARS, older people who are clearly here every day with their newspapers and their talking points about baseball and city life and their health ailments. It’s like time stopped here for a minute, and smartphones haven’t been invented yet, and maybe Jerry and George and his pals may waltz in from the 90s at any minute. You don’t come to places like this for a michellin meal - you come to remember what it was like when the world was slower, to sit with neighbors as they share their weekly breakfast, or to be an observer, like me, a person who isn’t from here but is so grateful that places like the Cosmic Diner still exist. As far as chicken n Waffles d*** fuk unless u specify fried chicken and waffles, u will get tenders as for the gravy stupid for ur chicken, ur supposed to use syrup with this plate. If you did get fried chicken the cost would go up, duhh let me guess u would b**** about that to.
