I’m a huge fan of local mom & pop Italian deli’s…good thing there’s a plethora of these here in Bergen County.

I perused the menu before heading over as I recently took a job not far from here and saw the description of a sandwich on their website that really jumped out to me. It was their #30 aka Arthur Ave. It consisted of chicken cutlets, topped with hot soppressata, fresh mozzarella and house made pesto on a crusty seeded Italian hero loaf.

I’m all too familiar with having gotten many a sandwich that sounded fantastic on paper but was disappointed in the end result due to either poor execution or just ingredients that didn’t pass muster. That was not the case with this sandwich. You could tell every component was high quality from the amazing chicken cutlets (which on their own are delicious), fresh house made mutz, house made pesto, high quality Soppressata to the locally sourced fresh baked bread. These combined to make an amazing sandwich and I enjoyed every bite.

Seeing the size of the sandwich, I fully expected to save half for later…yeah no chance of that happening as I killed the whole thing in one sitting. The cherry(s) on top (as seems to be the rule, not the exception at establishments of this ilk) were the awesome people/family that runs the place. Absolutely wonderful people and service with a genuine smile that reveals how much they truly enjoy what they do.

“The traditional Italian sub ("#1") was reviewed as the best sub in New Jersey, and I completely agree, except for the fact that their #4 sub (hot prosciutto) might be even better. The folks there are already. Be aware, cash only. There is a small parking lot behind the building with a very narrow driveway and an onto Fairmount St, so maybe it's better to come in from that direction.“

“I came here to check this place out since it had great reviews and I was craving halal food. Upon entrance, it was a clean and inviting place and the friendly owners greeted me. They took care in setting up everything from the nice tables & chairs to beverage and food items. Very organized and meticulous. I asked for a chicken schwarma and falafel platter (not on the menu) and she was happy to accommodate. It was made fresh to order and everything was delicious! There was alot of food and I had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. Price was reasonable too. I will come back here again whenever I’m craving a gyro, falafel, souvlaki, schwarma and of course the bagels (which looked fresh and yummy). Highly recommended!“

“This is such a great place. The food is wonderful the atmosphere is great and service is out of this world. I would recommend if your sick or just a soup lover to get their chicken and rice soup. Its thick and hearty with shredded chicken. The fresh mozzarella is like 10 dollars for this small ball but worth it. “This place is a stones throw from one of my job sites. Their sandwiches are some of the best I've ever had. I've had several of their cold cut sandwiches I've had their chicken cutlets and I'm a huge fan of their cheesesteak. They have claim to " world's most famous fries". I have to admit they are also some of the best I've ever had. They also Brew their own iced tea and lemonade and put them in those big plastic containers which is a great treat in the summer. “Nestled in a small strip mall next to the Mahwah train station, this deli is charming, the owner and staff are friendly (it’s family run), and the food is really good. I have been here three times in the past two weeks, and I have been very satisfied each time. I do plan on becoming a regular customer. There are daily soups and specials, the latter of which can be purchased as a single serving or family style (feeds 4-5 people). Each day of the week has its own special item, but the specials remain the same for each day from one week to the next. We recently had the Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Tortellini Alfredo daily special, family style. It was just for the two of us, but we got two entire meals out of it (four individual servings). It was delicious. They have an interesting and eclectic mix of menu items, including empanadas, chicken wings, gyros, taquitos, antipasto, stuffed peppers, sliders (burger, chicken, and pulled pork), meatballs, heroes, soups, salads, and desserts. While they do serve heroes, this does not appear to be the kind of deli where you go for, say, a typical roast beef or tuna fish sandwich with a side of regular potato salad. In the deli case, though, I did notice items like white meat chicken salad, country Coleslaw, green beans oreganata, pasta primavera, cucumber salad, salmon cakes, and stuffed filet of sole. There is a small selection of packaged items (potato chips, pasta), jarred items (pickles, olives, peppers, marinated mushrooms, and condiments), candy, and snacks. There are two refrigerators filled with “Grab ‘n Go” items. They also have a catering menu. For those who may want to stay and eat, there is a small countertop area with seats for four people. There is also a bench at the front window where you can sit and wait for your order to be prepared. You can join their VIP mobile club and receive a discount and daily text messages with a photo of the day’s special and pricing. There is parking directly in front of the store as well as at a right angle in front of the train station. (Those who ride the commuter train usually park on the other side of tracks in a designated parking lot.) If you live in the area, this place is definitely worth a try.
